1B/3B Waiver Wire Pickups for Fantasy Baseball - Week 8

brendan donovan fantasy baseball rankings draft sleepers waiver wire pickups

John's fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups for 1B and 3B for Week 8 of the 2022 MLB season. Consider adding and streaming these first basemen and third basemen.

Welcome back RotoBallers! We are flying right along here. It’s crazy to think this upcoming week will already stretch into the month of June. Hopefully, your fantasy teams are doing well, and if not, hopefully, we can help turn things around.

Today, we're back with another edition of our first base and third base fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups.

For those who are not familiar, each week at RotoBaller, we publish a waiver wire article for each position. This article will look at corner infield options, at both 1B and 3B. You can also read our other articles for middle infield (2B and SS), outfield, starting pitchers, and more.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Let’s keep rolling right along here with some names to consider as fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups for this upcoming week of the MLB and fantasy baseball season – May 30 through June 5.

Christian Walker, Arizona Diamondbacks

32% Rostered

Walker has continued his strong start to the season in the power department. He has launched 12 home runs to start the season which currently ranks third in the National League and fourth in all of baseball.

His advanced metrics remain up around his 2019 marks when he crushed 29 homers and 26 doubles in 152 games. Walker’s barrel percentage, hard-hit rate, and exit velocity are all up around the 80th percentile or better.

While the results haven’t really come in the average department, he has been a more disciplined hitter posting a higher walk rate and lower strikeout percentage. If he can keep this up and stay on the field, Walker should be able to finish around a 25-30 homer campaign.

Josh Rojas, Arizona Diamondbacks

29% Rostered

Rojas has been really solid since returning from the injured list and making his season debut. Over 17 games, he’s hitting .321 and has a .406 OBP, .915 OPS, three home runs, a double, and three stolen bases.

This of course comes off of a 2021 season in which he hit 32 doubles and 11 home runs while driving in 32 runs, stealing nine bases, and posting a .752 OPS over 139 games. Rojas’ versatility makes him an interesting fantasy option to consider at many different positions.

Brendan Donovan, St. Louis Cardinals

22% Rostered

Donovan has continued to be a nice little piece for the Cardinals. Even on this crowded St. Louis team, he’s found his way into the lineup on a regular basis, spending time at first, second, third, shortstop, and outfield.

His plate discipline remains stellar, striking out as many times as he’s walked (12). Donovan has six doubles and is hitting .310 while posting a .910 OPS and adding a stolen base through 25 big league games.

He’s found his way up to the two-hole in the lineup at times and connotes to remain a steady presence. Last season across three levels of the minors, Donovan put together a 12 homer, 19 stolen base campaign. Donovan could be an interesting young and versatile piece moving forward.

Michael Chavis, Pittsburgh Pirates

5% Rostered

Chavis was removed from Friday’s game due to left forearm discomfort. Prior to that, he was finally beginning to carve out an everyday role in that Pirates lineup with Daniel Vogelbach on the injured list.  Chavis has very quietly been a pretty solid addition in Pittsburgh. On the season, he’s hitting .286 and has a .793 OPS with four home runs, five doubles, and 15 RBI over 37 games.

He’s been heating up of late as well, hitting .326 and posting a .873 OPS over his previous 15 games. The plate discipline remains an issue for the slugger as he’s struck out 32 times and drawn just five walks.  As long as Chavis makes out fine with the injury, the playing time is certainly there for the taking on this rebuilding Pirates team.
