Zach Charbonnet, David Montgomery, Tyjae Spears: Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em Picks for Fantasy Football Week 7

Tyjae Spears - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, Waiver Wire Pickups

Should I start Zach Charbonnet, David Montgomery, or Tyjae Spears for Week 7? Fantasy football start 'em, sit 'em picks and recommendations for the 2025 NFL season.

Week 7 is here, which means it's time to make those critical lineup decisions for your fantasy football matchups. This week brings tough choices at running back, as committee backfields, coaching changes, and tricky matchups are testing fantasy managers' patience across the league.

In this article, we'll analyze whether you should start or sit Zach Charbonnet, David Montgomery, and Tyjae Spears in fantasy for Week 7. All three running backs present unique challenges: backfield timeshares, battling for touches, or emerging from injury.

So, should fantasy managers start or sit Charbonnet, Montgomery, and Spears in Week 7? Let's dive in and find out.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Should I Start Zach Charbonnet for Fantasy Football?

Seattle's backfield has become one of the most frustrating situations in fantasy football. What was supposed to be Kenneth Walker's backfield has turned into a messy committee that has left fantasy managers disappointed. Charbonnet currently ranks 37th among running backs with just 7.3 fantasy points per game. Anyone inspired by those numbers? I didn't think so.

The 2023 second-round pick has actually been the lead back, playing 57% of snaps compared to Walker's 43%. He's also getting more goal-line work, with seven red zone carries since Week 4 compared to Walker's four. On paper, that sounds promising. The problem? He hasn't been very efficient.

He is averaging a concerning 2.6 yards per carry this season. Even more troubling, through five games, he has had just one ten-plus yard run all season. His lack of explosiveness has turned him into a touchdown-or-bust option, and even then, he hasn't reached 13 fantasy points in a single game this season.

Verdict: SIT Charbonnet should be on benches in Week 7 unless you're in extremely deep leagues or facing a bye week nightmare. He's a low-floor RB3/flex at best, and you're better off streaming almost any other option.

Should I Start David Montgomery for Fantasy Football?

Playing alongside Jahmyr Gibbs in one of the NFL's most explosive offenses, Montgomery has shown both upside and frustration this season. Currently ranking 16th among running backs with 11.6 fantasy points per game, he's been maddeningly inconsistent.

Montgomery is seeing double-digit rush attempts and has maintained a near 50% red zone snap rate, which provides some touchdown upside. He ranks 12th among qualifying backs in explosive run rate and sixth in yards after contact per attempt, showing he's still effective when given opportunities.

The Lions have the highest projected team total of the week at 29.0 points, which creates scoring opportunities. However, Tampa's elite run defense metrics--holding backs to the second-lowest missed tackle rate and yards after contact per attempt--present a challenge.

Verdict: START (with caution in shallow leagues) Montgomery should be in most fantasy lineups in Week 7 as a touchdown-dependent RB2/flex. In deeper leagues (12-team or more), he's a must-start given his role in an elite offense and the high-scoring game environment. However, in shallower formats (10-team or less), he's a "break glass in case of emergency" option where you need to evaluate your alternatives carefully.

Should I Start Tyjae Spears for Fantasy Football?

Tyjae Spears is emerging as one of the more intriguing waiver wire pickups and potential flex options heading into Week 7. After missing the first four weeks with a high ankle sprain, the second-year back is finally showing the explosive ability that made him a coveted prospect coming out of Tulane.

In his season debut in Week 5, Spears was eased in with just a 26% snap share and four carries. Fast forward to Week 6 against the Raiders, and everything changed. Spears completely flipped the script on the Titans backfield, commanding a 59% snap share compared to Tony Pollard's 42%.

With head coach Brian Callahan fired after a 1-5 start, interim coach Mike McCoy takes over. This presents an opportunity for Spears to prove himself to the new regime and potentially secure an even larger role. When healthy, Spears looks like the more explosive and efficient back, averaging 6.2 yards per attempt in Week 6.

Verdict: FLEX (PPR leagues only) Spears is a viable flex option in PPR formats for Week 7, but should sit in standard scoring leagues. His 22% missed tackle rate and 2.78 yards after contact per attempt show efficiency when given opportunities but he will have a tough time against the Patriots run defense, meaning his value comes almost entirely from the passing game.
