Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 3:
Caleb Williams, QB, Chicago Bears
Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is off to a promising fantasy start despite the team's 0-2 record. The 2024 first-overall pick is averaging 21.1 fantasy points per game, putting him on pace to finish as the QB10. A major part of his success has come on the ground, where Williams ranks fourth among quarterbacks in rushing yards and fifth in rushing fantasy points from the quarterback position.
This week, Williams takes on the Dallas Cowboys and his former head coach, Matt Eberflus. While some worry that Eberflus' familiarity with Williams could pose problems, new Bears head coach Ben Johnson has a proven track record against the Dallas defensive coordinator. During his time with the Lions, Johnson's offenses topped 30 points in four of six meetings against Eberflus' defenses.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys' defense has been a liability, giving up the most fantasy points to quarterbacks in both 2024 and 2025, while allowing the most rushing yards and touchdowns to quarterbacks in both seasons. In what projects to be a high-scoring affair, Williams profiles as a mid QB1 for Week 3.
Jake Ferguson, TE, Dallas Cowboys
Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson had a big performance on Sunday in the team's thrilling back-and-forth overtime win over the New York Giants in Week 2. Ferguson ended up leading the team with 12 targets on the day and tied for the team lead in receptions with nine, while racking up 78 receiving yards. The 26-year-old finished second in yards, behind only top wideout CeeDee Lamb.
It was a nice Week 2 performance after he had a modest day in the Week 1 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, when he went for five catches on six targets for 23 yards. Despite not scoring a touchdown through two weeks, Ferguson ranks as the TE10 in half-PPR scoring with 14 catches on 18 targets for 101 yards.
He's unlikely to be available in your league, as he's currently rostered in 82% of Yahoo leagues. Ferguson will have a good shot at scoring his first 2025 TD in Week 3 against a Bears defense that just gave up over 50 points in Week 2 to Detroit.
Bo Nix, QB, Denver Broncos
Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix has had a mediocre 2025 campaign thus far. He began the season by throwing for 176 yards, one touchdown, and two picks off 25-for-40 passing in the win over the Titans in Week 1. The signal-caller followed up that performance by tossing 206 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in the loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
With the Broncos sitting at 1-1, the team will look to get back in the win column versus the Chargers. Los Angeles enters Week 3 without a loss. The Chargers limited Patrick Mahomes to only one touchdown toss in Brazil before forcing Geno Smith to throw three interceptions on Monday night. With an efficient Chargers defense on tap, fantasy managers may want to consider keeping Nix out of the lineup on Sunday, at least for those participating in single-QB leagues.
On the other hand, the 25-year-old can be viewed as a starting fantasy option in SuperFlex formats, especially with so many injuries around the league at the quarterback position heading into Week 3.
Harold Fannin Jr., TE, Cleveland Browns
Cleveland Browns tight end Harold Fannin Jr. has been one of the team's few bright spots on offense through two games this season. The rookie has caught 12 passes for 111 yards thus far, outproducing veteran tight end David Njoku, who has just seven grabs for 77 scoreless yards.
Fannin has a chance to stay hot at home against the Green Bay Packers in Week 3 as Green Bay is allowing the fifth-most fantasy points per game to tight ends through two games this year.
The stud pass-catching specialist rookie tight end still has to share snaps and targets with David Njoku, which caps his upside, but he still checks in as a high-end TE2 for fantasy this weekend.
Stefon Diggs, WR, New England Patriots
New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs has seen lower usage than expected during the first two weeks of the season, which makes him tough to trust in fantasy football for Week 3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Diggs' volume has been steady so far, but he has only played 54.2 percent of the team's offensive snaps. This type of usage might not be enough to justify starting Diggs in fantasy football, especially against a Steelers defense that has been near league-average in terms of fantasy points allowed to wide receivers.
They've been particularly stingy against slot receivers, and 36.6 percent of Diggs' snaps this season have come in the slot. He ranks just outside the top 36 fantasy receivers for Week 3 against Pittsburgh.
