Week 3 Kicker Rankings Outlooks

Harrison Butker, Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker will face the New York Giants on Sunday night in Week 3. Butker nailed all three field goal attempts in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers, but the same could not be said about his performance last week.

The Chiefs kicker made only one of his two field goal attempts, missing a 58-yard attempt towards the end of the first quarter. Butker was one of the most valuable kickers in fantasy when the Chiefs were the best offense in football, but they've since regressed, and so has his value.

The Giants could provide a boost to the kicker this week. The Giants allowed the Dallas Cowboys to score 40 points in Week 2, including a massive performance from Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey. Aubrey knocked through four field goals and four extra-point attempts on route to a 22-point fantasy performance.

Butker is not expected to reach those heights this week, but the matchup should provide an opportunity for more volume. Butker is ranked K12 in our RotoBaller rankings, making him a start-worthy player in most leagues.

Ka'imi Fairbairn, Houston Texans

Houston Texans kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn continues to be a reliable fantasy starter at the position despite his team's offensive issues. He has made all his kicks this season, going a perfect 5-for-5 on field goal attempts and 1-for-1 on extra points.

They went for two after one of their touchdowns in Week 2 on Monday Night Football, but Fairbairn still finished with seven points, including another field goal from 50+ yards.

He's made all three of his attempts this year from over 50 yards, and he is a solid play as the Texans look to pick up their first win of the season on the road against Jacksonville this week. Fairbairn is the K7 in RotoBaller's Week 3 rankings, making him a starter in almost all formats at EverBank Stadium.

Eddy Pineiro, San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco 49ers kicker Eddy Pineiro was brought in for Week 2 after one miss too many by Jake Moody brought about his release. Naturally, Pineiro shanked his first kick with his new team, an extra-point try no less.

Pineiro rebounded and made good on the rest of his attempts last Sunday, two extra points and field goals from 44 and 46 yards out. Pineiro is one of the most accurate kickers in NFL history, a welcome change of pace given his predecessor's volatility.

His upside is limited, however, by a lack of leg strength. Pineiro makes for an adequate streamer in Week 3, though fantasy football managers are better off seeking a kicker with greater potential to hit long-range field goals.

Wil Lutz, Denver Broncos

Denver Broncos kicker Wil Lutz is a strong candidate to bounce back and rank among the top 10 players at his position during Week 3 against the Los Angeles Chargers. Lutz went 4-for-4 on extra points last week but missed his lone field goal attempt, so he's looking for better production this time around.

A much tougher matchup against the Chargers works in his favor as the Broncos could end more drives in field goals and fewer drives in touchdowns. Furthermore, kickers have fared quite well against the Chargers this year, with Harrison Butker and Daniel Carlson both posting double-digit fantasy points.

Finally, Lutz will play in a calm environment inside SoFi Stadium, protecting him from elements like wind or rain.

Jason Myers, Seattle Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks kicker Jason Myers is in line for another solid game in Week 3 against the New Orleans Saints. Myers has turned in two straight eight-point outings to start the season. While he is not lighting up the scoreboard for fantasy, he provides a great baseline for your kicker spot.

The Seahawks have had success moving the ball in both Weeks 1 and 2, which has put Myers in plenty of positions to kick field goals and extra points. They should have no issue doing so again in Week 3 against a Saints team that has allowed at least 20 points in both games.

Myers has remained accurate this season. He missed one field goal in Week 2, but has made every other field goal and extra point attempt this season. Look for him to push for a double-digit outing on his home turf in Week 3.

Chad Ryland, Arizona Cardinals

Arizona Cardinals kicker Chad Ryland has turned in some solid performances thus far, with another multi-field goal outing in Week 2. He booted a 29-yarder and a 47-yarder while making all three of his extra-point attempts as well. He's currently the K13 on the season, and he looks to be hovering right around the same area for Week 3.

The San Francisco 49ers' defense presents the biggest challenge for the Cardinals' offense so far, which could put a damper on Ryland's opportunities if they can't rise above it. There are better kicking options out there, but Ryland could be an option for anyone in a pinch.

Chase McLaughlin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker Chase McLaughlin has struggled early in the season. McLaughlin missed two kicks in the season opener, and his issues lingered into Week 2.

McLaughlin made both his extra point attempts but missed his lone field goal attempt in the win over the Houston Texans. It has been a frustrating start for McLaughlin, who was fantastic for Tampa Bay last season. The Bucs are expected to have a much longer leash on McLaughlin than fantasy managers should. McLaughlin comes into a favorable matchup against a shaky New York Jets defense.

The expectation is that the Bucs should be able to set up McLaughlin with plenty of opportunities. No one should blame fantasy managers for moving on from McLaughlin, but maybe he deserves one more chance.
