Week 3 Running Back Rankings Outlooks
Rhamondre Stevenson, New England Patriots
New England Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson could continue to see significant volume as he works to hold onto his lead-back role against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3. While fantasy managers are itching to see Tre'Veyon Henderson take over the New England backfield, Stevenson has held onto the top spot on the depth chart through two weeks.
He was quite impressive last Sunday against the Dolphins, leading the Patriots in rushing attempts, rushing yards, targets, receptions, and receiving yards. He should handle roughly 15 touches with solid efficiency this week against the Steelers, who have allowed the sixth-most fantasy points to opposing running backs in 2025. Stevenson is worth starting as a low-end RB2 in fantasy football.
Cam Skattebo, New York Giants
New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo enters Week 3 as a high-risk, high-reward fantasy option following his breakout performance against Dallas. Skattebo scored 12.9 fantasy points in Week 2, earning a 50% timeshare and critical snaps late in the game, indicating he may be taking over the backfield, especially with Tyrone Tracy Jr. nursing a calf injury.
He faces a significant challenge against a stout Kansas City Chiefs run defense that has allowed only two rushing touchdowns all season. The Chiefs rank as the 6th-toughest defense against fantasy running backs, allowing just 14.7 points per game to the position, which places Skattebo firmly in the RB3/flex category despite his promising usage.
Kenneth Walker III, Seattle Seahawks
Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III looks to be a workhorse running back in Week 3 against the New Orleans Saints. No. 2 running back Zach Charbonnet (foot) is tagged as doubtful for this week, which means that Walker will likely receive a massive workload. Walker and Charbonnet had been in a near-even backfield split in terms of total touches. The Seahawks have been intentional with the usage of their running backs to keep both of them fresh and healthy.
However, with limited running back experience behind Walker, he is going to have to receive the lion's share of touches out of necessity. The Saints have not been lit up by opposing running backs to begin the season, but Walker's volume alone gives him a chance to have a massive game. Walker has already seen a solid target share in the first two games of the season. With a substantial uptick in carries, he should knock on the door of RB1 status in Week 3.
Aston Jeanty, Las Vegas Raiders
Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty could finally find some breathing room in Week 3 against a middling Washington Commanders defense. The rookie has opened the season with tough assignments, facing the league's No. 3 and No. 8 run defenses, leaving many fantasy managers uneasy about his early production.
This matchup presents a more favorable opportunity, as Washington has struggled to contain opposing ground games. With Marcus Mariota starting under center for the Commanders instead of Jayden Daniels, the Raiders may even find themselves in a position to build an early lead. That scenario would set up a run-heavy game plan, boosting Jeanty's volume and upside. He profiles as a high-end RB2 play in season-long formats and a cost-effective option for DFS lineups this week.
Kareem Hunt, Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt is in a nearly 50/50 split backfield with Isiah Pacheco heading into Week 3. Pacheco is pacing the backfield in carries, but the duo is tied with 47 rushing yards on the season.
Hunt and Pacheco have been so inefficient that Patrick Mahomes is actually the team's leading rusher through the first two weeks. Despite his struggles, Hunt has been the preferred back on passing downs and short-yardage situations. If he can hang onto this role in the offense and improve his efficiency, Hunt could be the most fantasy-relevant player in this backfield.
The 30-year-old will have the opportunity to turn it around in a juicy matchup against the New York Giants. The Giants ceded 82 rushing yards and a touchdown to Jacory Croskey-Merritt in Week 1, then 97 yards and a touchdown to Javonte Williams in Week 2. Given his short-yardage role, Hunt could find himself in the endzone this weekend against this porous Giants defense.
Hunt will have to prove his worth soon with rookie Brashard Smith waiting in the wings, but he should have a chance to hang onto the role for at least another week. Hunt is ranked RB41 in our Roto Baller Half-PPR rankings this week, making him a deeper league flex option.
