Fantasy Football Drop Candidates
Read about fantasy football players to consider dropping for Week 13:
J.K. Dobbins, Denver Broncos
Denver Broncos running back J.K. Dobbins (foot) has a "significant" foot injury that will require season-ending surgery, according to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Dobbins suffered the injury in Week 10 and had already been ruled out for Denver's Week 11 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, but he will now be placed on Injured Reserve. It's an unfortunate development for the oft-injured 26-year-old, who was having a solid season in his first year in Denver.
Through 10 games, Dobbins had recorded 772 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 153 carries. With Dobbins sidelined, Broncos rookie running back RJ Harvey profiles as the team's RB1 for Week 11 and beyond. Fellow backs Tyler Badie and Jaleel McLaughlin could also factor in Denver, but neither profiles as a true threat to surpass Harvey.
Sam LaPorta, Detroit Lions
According to Detroit Football Network's Justin Rogers, Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta (back) is likely to miss the remainder of the season after successful surgery on his back. The 24-year-old was amid a rebound campaign, posting a 40/489/3 line before sustaining a back injury in their 44-22 win over the Commanders in Week 10.
However, his status quickly deteriorated, and he's now facing a significant recovery. Fellow tight end Brock Wright (ankle) will operate as Detroit's TE1 in his teammate's stead, with Ross Dwelley working in behind him. Neither projects to be particularly useful for fantasy.
Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
After undergoing an MRI exam on Monday, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield (shoulder) has been diagnosed with a low-grade left (non-throwing) shoulder injury, a source tells Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Mayfield injured his left shoulder late in the first half of Sunday night's blowout loss to the Los Angeles Rams and did not return in the second half. He was seen wearing a sling on his left arm on the sideline. It's good news for the 30-year-old, but it's still unclear if he will play in Week 13 against the Arizona Cardinals.
If Mayfield cannot go, veteran Teddy Bridgewater would make his first start of the year. Mayfield, who has been on the QB1/2 borderline in fantasy football in recent weeks, should be considered questionable for the next game for now. We should have a better idea of his Week 13 status when Tampa resumes practicing on Wednesday.
Jordan Addison, WR, Vikings
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison did not record a catch and saw only one target as the Vikings lost 23-6 on Sunday at Green Bay. The Minnesota offense reached a new low on Sunday by running only 44 plays for 145 yards, which included a brutal four total yards in the entire second half.
Quarterback J.J. McCarthy completed 12 passes for 89 yards and threw two more interceptions without a touchdown. Addison was never a factor as Minnesota attempted to control the game on the ground, but fell behind and saw the Green Bay pass rush overwhelm the offensive line for five sacks. Managers have now seen a month straight of little performance from Addison, whose Vikings are at Seattle next week.
