Fantasy Football Draft Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider drafting in 2025:
Jameson Williams, WR, Detroit Lions
Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams is coming off the best year of his career. After a turbulent first few seasons in the National Football League, the 2022 No. 12 overall pick finally lived up to the hype in 2024. He had only 58 catches. Yet, Williams made up for it by amassing over 1,000 receiving yards and finding the end zone seven times.
With a new offensive coordinator and a challenging schedule on the horizon, many wonder if Williams can duplicate his success from last season. Granted, it's not easy for anyone to share a field with Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Sam LaPorta, at least regarding involvement. Still, he should continue to have a prominent role on the offensive side of the ball. Williams' lack of volume is somewhat of a concern for PPR managers. On the other hand, he averaged 17.3 yards per catch last season, giving him plenty of upside for those participating in standard formats.
Williams occupies the No. 23 spot in standard leagues and the No. 27 spot in PPR formats in RotoBaller's latest rankings. The 24-year-old has a higher ceiling than most, so it's certain that he could surpass his ADP expectations, potentially even earning a trip to the Pro Bowl. However, he'll need to stay healthy while being mindful of his behavior off the field.
George Pickens, WR, Dallas Cowboys
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens, formerly of the Pittsburgh Steelers, was traded from his old team to his new team ahead of the 2025 NFL season. Pickens will now slot in behind CeeDee Lamb as the team's WR2. Lamb is one of the NFL's best, and is exceedingly likely to lead Pickens in targets, but they serve different roles in the offense.
While Lamb is an elite route-runner with stellar short-area quickness and separation abilities, Pickens is a fantastic deep threat capable of making circus-level, acrobatic catches and winning down the field. Pickens could see career-high production, even if it's capped by Lamb's presence, because he's never had much to work with in Pittsburgh. He'll slot into a team that's had a highly productive passing offense in recent years. Quarterback Dak Prescott is still capable of being a high-volume passer.
Pickens finishing as a WR1 in PPR fantasy football leagues doesn't seem super likely, but at his ADP of WR37, he's a good value. A high-end WR3 season wouldn't be surprising for Pickens. If things go well in Dallas, he could reasonably finish as a WR2, making him a very solid value draft selection for fantasy football teams.
Stefon Diggs, WR, New England Patriots
The New England Patriots signed 31-year-old wide receiver Stefon Diggs (knee) to a three-year, $63 million contract ahead of the 2025 season. While many might assume that number ensures he'll be the team's No. 1 receiver moving forward, he tore his ACL around the middle of 2024. Typically, WRs going into a season where they'll turn 32 after having sustained a major knee injury the year before don't perform too well. He made offseason headlines for his infamous Memorial Day boating video, but things have settled down since then, and he reportedly looked good running routes and cutting.
Diggs is on target and could be ready for Week 1 of the upcoming season. However, the Pats invested significant draft capital in rookie WR Kyle Williams, a talented and highly underrated route-runner and after-catch specialist. It's likely that Williams, who has a great combination of height, speed, and sudden releases on his routes, will take over the WR1 job in a short time. Diggs wasn't particularly efficient even in a slot-heavy role in 2024 with the Texans, and this year's free-agent WR market was very weak, so he probably got an inflated contract.
Quarterback Drake Maye was excellent in 2024, and Diggs could have a valuable slot role yet again, but he might not finish above Williams this year if he is not ready by Week 1. Diggs carries a lot of risk and is currently WR50 in our latest RotoBaller rankings, making him a borderline WR4 entering upcoming fantasy football drafts.
Jordan Mason, RB, Minnesota Vikings
Jordan Mason enjoyed a nice 2024 season. He ran for a career-best 789 rushing yards while filling in for an injured Christian McCaffrey. Mason's advanced metrics were also quite good. Among 46 backs with 100+ carries, Mason finished third in Next Gen Stats rush yards over expected, 10th in PFF elusive rating, and 19th in PFF's rushing grade.
Clearly, the Minnesota Vikings took notice and acquired him in a trade with the San Francisco 49ers. Minnesota also re-signed Aaron Jones to a two-year extension this offseason. However, it's worth noting that Mason finished higher than Jones in each of the above metrics. Minnesota has also made it clear that it wants to lighten Jones' workload this season.
Mason could be in line for a larger role than some think. At the very least, he is a great target later in drafts as a Jones handcuff. However, Mason might offer some standalone value as a potential flex play. Mason's average Yahoo Fantasy ADP of 76 overall means gamers won't have to pay a high premium to draft him. At this price, there's not much downside. Mason has the potential to wildly outperform his ADP if the cards break his way.
Jaylen Waddle, WR, Miami Dolphins
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle yet again disappointed fantasy managers in 2024. Waddle's 2022 season, in which he finished as the WR8 in normal PPR scoring leagues, catching 75 of his 117 targets for 1,356 yards and eight touchdowns, doesn't seem remotely likely to repeat itself. Waddle's target numbers have followed a downward trend over the last three seasons -- after averaging 8.75 per game in 2021, he followed with 6.88 in 2022, 7.43 in 2023, and just 5.53 in 2024.
Things are different in Miami now. The offensive line has significantly regressed since after 2023. The Dolphins also now have running back De'Von Achane, the league's best pass-catching running back, available to help them pick up gains with short passes and not risk as many turnovers throwing the ball down the field. Additionally, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has a hugely concerning injury history, and another concussion could knock him out of action for extended time. When he doesn't play, Waddle doesn't produce fantasy-relevant stat lines.
Waddle finished as the WR34 in 2023 and the WR46 in 2024, yet is still being drafted as the WR30 in PPR leagues. Perhaps if WR Tyreek Hill continues to fall off, Waddle could get more targets, but Waddle's recent play doesn't inspire much confidence. There's a glimmer of hope now, as tight end Jonnu Smith was traded away, but the offense will need to find more success with deep passing for Waddle to shine. And that's a big question mark.
