When is Jasson Dominguez getting called up? Will his injury allow him to make an impact in MLB this season? Read about Jasson Dominguez’s debut date and fantasy baseball prospect updates for 2024.
It's been a somewhat tepid season for rookie batters, at least amongst those expected to be right at the forefront of the Rookie of the Year race. Wyatt Langford has just now started to perform as many expected he would, Evan Carter was uneven before hitting the IL, and Jackson Holliday flopped before going back to the minors and getting hurt.
Jasson Dominguez was more on the periphery of that discussion, owing to the start of his season being delayed by his recovery from Tommy John surgery at the end of last season. Nonetheless, he was expected to be a major contributor to the Yankees outfield/DH rotation once recovered, and he certainly looked well on his way during his rehab assignment and once he was activated and optioned.
However, an oblique injury has put a major damper on his outlook. What does his timeline look like now?

Jasson Dominguez Prospect Update for Fantasy Baseball
As mentioned, Dominguez isn't up through no fault of his own, and he almost definitely would have been the choice to replace Giancarlo Stanton on the Yankees roster when Big G went down with a hamstring injury that is expected to keep him out until the end of July. Dominguez took the league by storm last season in his first taste of MLB, hitting four home runs in eight games before hitting the IL with a torn UCL.

He picked up right where he left off on his rehab this year, with a 195 wRC+ while destroying High-A pitching before a 169 in Double-A and ultimately a 167 wRC+ for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Power is often the last tool to come back after Tommy John surgery for position players (just look at Bryce Harper's sluggish power start in 2023), but it was no problem for The Martian right out of the gate. Dominguez slammed six long balls in 23 games coming off the major surgery, a 42-homer pace over 162 games.
Unfortunately, the oblique injury suffered last week will keep Dominguez off the field for eight weeks, at which point he'll surely need some minor league time again before being considered for a call-up to the Yankees.
Jasson Dominguez Outlook for Fantasy Baseball
The cruelest irony about Dominguez's injury is that he'll be kept off the field quite a bit longer than Stanton, with a best-case scenario having Dominguez appear in a game in late August, setting him up for a September call-up when teams are allowed to add an extra position player.

At that point, assuming Stanton is healthy along with Juan Soto, Aaron Judge, and Alex Verdugo, it'll be hard to find playing time for Dominguez with Stanton locked in at DH and the starting outfield triumvirate playing every day as well. He's certainly worth stashing in a keeper league for 2025 with Soto and Verdugo set to hit free agency, but his 2024 outlook looks very limited.
