Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson was the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Richardson had a limited college career, playing only 24 career games. However, he flashed superstar potential.
Richardson completed only 54.7% of his pass attempts during his three years at Florida. Yet, the former Gator had 3,105 passing yards and 24 touchdowns compared to only 15 interceptions. More importantly, he was a massive threat in the running game.
The former Florida star had 161 rushing attempts for 1,116 yards and 12 touchdowns in college. He had 654 rushing yards and nine touchdowns in his final college season. Richardson finished third on the team in rushing yards and second in rushing touchdowns last year.

Anthony Richardson Injury Update For Fantasy Football
Unfortunately, the former Gator star struggled with injuries this season. He missed 1.5 games because of a concussion. More importantly, Richardson suffered a shoulder injury to his throwing arm in the Week 5 win over the Tennessee Titans.
Initially, the Colts believed the rookie quarterback would only miss a few weeks with the injury. However, more testing revealed Richardson needed season-ending shoulder surgery.
Anthony Richardson Fantasy Football Outlook
Injuries are part of the game, but it’s awful seeing an exciting rookie quarterback only getting to play four games in his first season. Richardson was having a productive year, completing 59.5% of his pass attempts for 577 yards and three touchdowns.
Furthermore, the former Florida Gator had 25 rushing attempts for 136 yards and four touchdowns. Despite having missed the three games, the rookie quarterback is still second on the team in rushing touchdowns and third in yards.
With Richardson out for the year, Gardner Minshew will be the starting quarterback. The veteran has made Josh Downs and Michael Pittman Jr. consistent WR3s for fantasy players. Meanwhile, Zack Moss and Jonathan Taylor have formed an impressive 1-2 punch at the running back position.
Both running backs should have weekly starting value with the rookie quarterback sidelined. While Minshew scored two rushing touchdowns two weeks ago against the Cleveland Browns, he isn’t going to steal as many rushing touchdowns from the running backs as Richardson did early in the year.
Fantasy players can drop the rookie quarterback in all redraft leagues. Meanwhile, they should explore trading for the former Gator in dynasty and keeper leagues. Despite needing surgery, Richardson should be ready for Week 1 of the 2024 season.
