When Is Andrew Painter Getting Called Up? Fantasy Baseball Prospect Outlook (Week 18 Update)

Andrew Painter Prospects Graphic

When is Andrew Painter getting called up? Will Painter get promoted in July 2025? Read about this top fantasy baseball prospect outlook heading into Week 18.

Philadelphia Phillies right-handed pitching prospect Andrew Painter has been on the verge of making his MLB debut over the past few weeks, but has yet to earn the call.

However, the former first-round pick is coming off a strong start and could be on track to make his next start in the big leagues.

Should fantasy managers continue to stash Painter on their bench? When should fantasy managers expect him to get the call? Let's dive in!

Andrew Painter Prospect Update for Fantasy Baseball

After a rough stretch in early July, the top-ranked prospect in the Philadelphia system bounced back in a big way on Thursday evening. Facing Triple-A Norfolk, the right-hander tossed six innings of two-run ball. He allowed just one hit and three walks. He struck out four.

This is an excellent sign for Painter as he posted a hefty 7.04 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP across his first three starts of the month (15 1/3 innings). During this rough skid, Painter did show strong command, serving up just two walks.

Seeing Painter allow just one hit across six innings of work is an excellent sign, suggesting he is nearly complete with his development. Fantasy managers should continue to keep a close eye on his status over the weekend, as he could earn the call in the coming days.

Andrew Painter Outlook for Fantasy Baseball

The former 13th overall pick missed the entirety of the 2023 and 2024 seasons recovering from Tommy John surgery. While his box scores have not been too impressive this season, seeing him gradually increase his workload is a very positive sign. His most recent outing suggests he should be able to take on an MLB-level workload.

Earlier in the season, Philies manager Rob Thomson noted that July was a targeted date for Paitner's eventual MLB debut.

In addition, with the starting pitcher, Aaron Nola (ankle) still on the 60-day IL and right-hander Mick Abel recently demoted to Triple-A, Painter will have a clear path to remain in the organization for the foreseeable future when he eventually earns the call.

Given his strikeout potential, he should be viewed as a must-stash in all leagues entering Week 18.
