Fantasy Football Drop Candidates
Read the recent news and fantasy outlooks of some of the top cut candidates:
Luke McCaffrey, WR - WSH (Cut List Ranking No. 2)
Washington Commanders wide receiver Luke McCaffrey was held without a catch in the team's 44-22 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 7. It was a prime opportunity for a breakout, with the Cowboys ranking last in the NFL against wide receivers, and Terry McLaurin (quad), Deebo Samuel Sr. (heel), and Noah Brown (groin) all sidelined.
Despite the ideal setup, McCaffrey played just 52% of the snaps, finishing behind Chris Moore and Jaylin Lane, and nearly even with Robbie Chosen, who was making his season debut. With McLaurin and Samuel both expected to return soon, McCaffrey's role will likely shrink even further. Fantasy managers can safely move on from McCaffrey in all formats.
Kendre Miller, RB - NO (Cut List Ranking No. 1)
New Orleans Saints running back Kendre Miller (knee) suffered a torn ACL in the Week 7 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday and will miss the rest of the year, sources told Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports. It's a tough blow for Miller and for the Saints' backfield depth behind starter Alvin Kamara. The 23-year-old had ascended into the biggest role of his career in his third year in the league as the direct backup to Kamara, carrying the ball 47 times for 193 yards (career-best 4.1 yards per tote) and a touchdown while adding five catches on five targets for 30 yards as a pass-catcher through seven games.
Miller has been plagued by the injury bug since entering the NFL as a third-rounder in 2023, as he missed 20 of a possible 34 games in his first two seasons. With Miller now sidelined until next year, rookie Devin Neal becomes the primary handcuff option for Kamara's fantasy managers.
Mike Evans, WR - TB (Cut List Ranking No. 15)
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers officially placed veteran wide receiver Mike Evans (collarbone) on Injured Reserve on Wednesday after he broke his clavicle in Monday night's loss to the Detroit Lions, according to Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com. Evans will be forced to miss at least four games while on IR, but his absence is expected to be much longer than that.
However, he reportedly suffered a clean break of his collarbone and could return to the team in under eight weeks if his rehab goes well. Head coach Todd Bowles said it would be "touch and go" as to whether Evans will be able to get back on the field before the end of the regular season. Fantasy managers can go ahead and drop the future Hall of Famer in redraft leagues. It's a tough blow for Evans, who had just returned from a three-game absence due to a hamstring strain.
He will finish shy of 1,000 receiving yards in 2025 for the first time in his 12 NFL seasons.
Jerry Jeudy, WR - CLE (Cut List Ranking No. 18)
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jerry Jeudy (knee) is back at practice on Thursday, according to Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN. Jeudy was listed as a non-participant in the first practice of the week on Wednesday, but his return on Thursday puts him on the right track to be active in Week 8 on Sunday on the road against the New England Patriots. If the 26-year-old is a full-go before Friday's final session, he could be cleared from the Week 8 injury report entirely.
It's been a frustrating year for Jeudy and his fantasy managers so far through seven weeks in 2025, as he's currently looking for his first visit to paydirt. The former first-rounder was a Pro Bowler in his first year in Cleveland in 2024 with a 90-1,229-4 line in 17 games, but he has managed only 22 catches for 257 yards so far in 2025.
He has not topped 20 yards in two of the last three games and has a much lower fantasy ceiling the rest of the way now that veteran quarterback Joe Flacco is in Cincinnati.
Justin Fields, QB - NYJ (Cut List Ranking No. 5)
ESPN's Rich Cimini reports that New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn "hasn't decided on his QB" going forward after the team's miserable 13-6 loss to the Carolina Panthers in Week 7. The Jets are 0-7 on the season and have not scored a touchdown in either of their last two games. Starting quarterback Justin Fields was benched midway through Week 7 and has thrown for 845 yards and four touchdowns across six starts so far this season.
Veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor took over for Fields against Carolina and completed 10 of 22 pass attempts for 126 yards, zero touchdowns, and two interceptions. The Jets have a favorable matchup on paper in Week 8 against the Cincinnati Bengals, but could once again be without star wide receiver Garrett Wilson (knee). If he remains the starter, Fields maintains some fantasy appeal due to his rushing ability (257 rushing yards, three touchdowns this season).
If the 36-year-old Taylor takes over, he will be tough for fantasy managers to trust, even in two-quarterback formats.
