Fantasy Football Player Outlooks

DeVonta Smith, Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith notched consecutive 1,000-yard seasons in 2022 and 2023 before posting just 833 receiving yards in 2024, thanks to four missed games. The former Heisman Trophy winner could be one of the better wide receivers in the NFL, but his production doesn't suggest it. Unfortunately for Smith, he is in a crowded offense featuring A.J. BrownDallas Goedert, and Saquon Barkley, and the Eagles attempted the fewest passes per game in the league last season (25.7).

Put simply, the Eagles are dominant along the offensive line and in the running game, and the Philly defense keeps the team out of shootouts often. He is unlikely to command the volume needed to post legitimate WR1 numbers, which is why he carries a boom-or-bust outlook into most matchups.

The Slim Reaper delivered five top-14 half-PPR finishes a season ago, but failed to score double-digit fantasy points on four occasions. Smith has upside in most games, but his floor remains low due to his situation. He's a classic "better in best ball" fantasy option, but he's worth snagging in traditional leagues if he falls well into the WR3/WR4 range of drafts.

- Jackson Sparks

Chris Olave, New Orleans Saints

2024 was a disaster for New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave. He was notably left out of New Orleans' scoring outburst at the beginning of the season. Then, just when he was getting on track, quarterback Derek Carr (shoulder) went out with an abdominal injury. One week later, Olave sustained his first concussion, converting his lone target on 3% of snaps. The 24-year-old sat out the following week and returned with a big eight-catch, 107-yard performance on 14 targets, but suffered another concussion in the ensuing game and never took another snap.

Though it's still the offseason, the turmoil hasn't quit for the Saints. The team announced Carr's issues with his shoulder, and he ultimately retired, leaving a hole in the Saints' lineup anyway. To fill the job, QBs Spencer RattlerJake Haener, and second-round rookie Tyler Shough will compete, offering an uninspiring trio of field generals.

Despite a ton of talent, the uncertainty around the Saints' offense and a lack of experience in the QB room undoubtedly lowers his ceiling. The Ohio State product was once regarded as a rising asset and should still operate as the top option. Still, it's possible we don't see his best this year with New Orleans' offense in transition.

- Alex Ciulla

Cam Skattebo, New York Giants

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo had to wait until Round 4 to hear his name called in the 2025 NFL Draft. He will enter a backfield with another former Day 3 running back in Tyrone Tracy Jr., already in place as the starter. Additionally, the Giants still have veteran running back Devin Singletary, who figures to work into the rotation. Skattebo is a much different player than Tracy or Singletary. He brings a hard-hitting style to the backfield that is a necessary complement to the speed already in place.

Since no running back in this offense has significantly set themselves apart, Skattebo has a chance to make a very meaningful difference right away. Skattebo has thrived as an underdog throughout his entire football career, but he is nowhere near devoid of talent. Skattebo is fresh off a 1,711-yard and 21-touchdown season with Arizona State.

He has yet to prove himself on an NFL field, but the blueprint is right in front of him. The fantasy community seems to think the same thing as RotoBaller currently has Skattebo ranked as the RB41, which is inline with his ADP as a low-end RB3 or flex. With an excellent opportunity ahead of him, Skattebo could be one of several rookie running backs with a chance to finish inside the top 24 at the position this season.
