Falcons wide receiver (WR) Russell Gage is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup to target as a free agent addition for Week 3 of the 2020 NFL season.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED: 21% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: I have to admit that two things surprised me last week. The first one was that Gage joined the two of Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley in Atlanta's offense in terms of targets (12 each). The second one was to see how many folks were diminishing Gage's effort (20.4 PPR points) deeming his usage/volume a fluke. Remember, we're talking about a Falcons team with QB Matt Ryan--a freaking gunslinger--manning the pocket. And for the second week in a row, both Ryan and Gage played to my expectations.
After a 9-114-0 Week 1, Gage was about to regress no matter what. That's what happened this Sunday, but even with that, Gage finished with 16.6 PPR points to the tune of another high-usage game in which he logged nine targets hauling in six reception for a much more realistic 46 yards, but adding a touchdown to that line. Julio was targeted just four times, sure, but Ridley reached double-digits (10) and Ryan threw 24 balls toward his receiving corps. The volume was (and will remain) there for Gage.
While next week's opponent Chicago has been a little bit better (8th) against WRs than Seattle and Dallas (32nd and 25th), it is to expect another good performance from Gage if only because he's truly holding that WR3 role and his only threat (other than Julio and Ridley) to lose chances is TE Hayden Hurst, who topped at eight in W2. Gage will be claimed by more and more GMs each passing week, so make sure you get him because he's a WR3/FLEX weekly play with upside.
