BALLER MOVE: Start in all leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: WR1
ANALYSIS: Success is a moving target. Patrick Mahomes threw for 4,100 yards (sixth-best mark in the league) and 27 touchdowns (eighth-best) in 2023. For a quarterback like Derek Carr or Baker Mayfield, those are at or near career-best numbers. For Mahomes, it's a down year.
There's zero debate about the success of Puka Nacua's debut campaign. The Rams wide receiver is now the NFL record holder for most catches (105) and receiving yards (1,486) by a rookie. If anything, those are records you'd expect to be broken by a highly-touted first-round pick, not a fifth-rounder with a dreadful athleticism score coming out of the NFL Combine.
The rookie also helped propel Los Angeles back into the postseason, two years after they claimed the Lombardi Trophy. He'll be a key part of their game plan to advance past Wild Card Weekend. The Lions are getting torched by the top wide receiver on opposing offenses. While that may be Cooper Kupp on paper, the stats tell us it's Nacua.
Not only is Detroit susceptible to the passing game, they consistently shut down running backs. All the backs they faced in the regular season amassed 1,028 yards. That's just a hair over 60 yards per game. Kyren Williams has been fantastic and he'll likely put up better numbers than the average runner, but the aerial attack will be needed to upset Detroit. The matchup boasts the highest over/under line of the weekend (51.5). Expect a shootout with the quarterbacks and receivers benefitting.
