Yankees Discussing Sandy Alcantara, Edward Cabrera
Sandy Alcantara and Edward Cabrera, sources tell MLB Network's Jon Morosi. The Marlins have asked for outfielder Spencer Jones, who is currently sporting a 1.115 OPS at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, but a couple different concepts have been discussed. Jones is New York's No. 4 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and has some of the most high-end power upside that the minors have to offer. However, the Yankees are still looking for help for their starting rotation despite the impending return of right-hander Luis Gil (lat) this weekend. Clarke Schmidt and Gerrit Cole are done for the season with injuries. Alcantara is the more attractive upside piece long term, but the 29-year-old Dominican has been inconsistent in 2025 with a 6.36 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in his first season back from Tommy John surgery.
