Trevor Story To Start Rehab Assignment Friday
1 year agoBoston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story (elbow) will start his minor-league rehab assignment with Double-A Portland on Friday. The initial plan is for Story to play five innings at shortstop on Friday before getting at-bats as the designated hitter on Saturday, and logging another five innings at the 6 on Sunday. His rehab assignment can last a maximum of 20 days, and manager Alex Cora stressed the Red Sox aren't going to rush him back to make his 2023 debut after having right-elbow surgery. The 30-year-old is feeling good physically, both at the plate and in the field, and his readiness will mostly be a matter of building back up. Story will immediately return as the team's everyday shortstop, but fantasy managers may want to temper expectations. He hasn't played in a big-league game since Sept. 11 of last year.
