Tim Anderson 2022 Player Outlook: Slight Health Issues Preventing 20/20 Seasons
2 years agoFor the second time in three years, Tim Anderson just fell short of a 20/20 season, mainly due to only playing 123 games. In 2019, Anderson had 18 homers and 17 steals, while in 2021, he had 17 homers and 18 steals. Anderson also managed just 49 games in 2020 so has played just 77% of games over the last three seasons, otherwise, he would likely be going earlier than he is in drafts currently (~36 ADP). In OBP leagues, Anderson is significantly less appealing given his career 3.5% BB. His 4.0% BB% in 2021 was in the first percentile. But the lack of walks and good health still hasn't stopped Anderson from being a fantasy asset and his .322 batting average since 2019 is the best in baseball among qualified hitters. Anderson's aggressive approach at the plate hasn't been a hindrance and his 81.9% Z-Swing% in 2021 was a career-high (third among hitters with 550+ plate appearances). He also had a career-high 94 runs in 2021 as the White Sox offense is the best it's been for years so there's no reason to believe he won't continue to be an excellent source of runs. All four of Anderson's IL stints over the last three years have been leg injuries so there is genuine concern about his long-term prospects for staying healthy but if he does, we should see his first 20/20 season since 2018.
