Tigers Release Jonathan Schoop
Jonathan Schoop on Wednesday. Schoop cleared waivers after the team designated him for assignment last Friday, and now he'll hit the open market. The 31-year-old just didn't have any success with the bat in the first half of the 2023 season with Detroit, slashing .213/.278/.272 with no home runs, eight doubles, seven RBI and 15 runs scored in 151 trips to the plate and 55 games. The career .254 hitter had his lone 30-home run season back in 2017 with the Baltimore Orioles, when he was selected to his only All-Star game. Schoop hit 22 home runs two years ago with the Tigers, but he's pretty much fallen off the fantasy radar since then. He'll be hoping to sign a minor-league deal with another team for the second half.
