T.Y. Hilton, 2019 Outlook: Will Be Impacted By An Unexpected Change At Under Center
6 years agoHilton enters his eighth season having sustained a track record of consistency as a dependable receiving weapon, along with unquestioned status as the Colts’ WR1. He has averaged 131 targets since 2013, collected at least 109 during the six seasons in that span, and produced at least 1,083 yards in five of his last six seasons. Unfortunately, the only year in which he failed to reach that level of output was 2017 when he was performing without Andrew Luck as his quarterback. Jacoby Brissett started 15 games that season while Luck was unavailable (shoulder), and Hilton’s production declined (57 receptions/966 yards/4 touchdowns). He also fell to WR27 in PPR scoring and 24th in standard leagues that season. Brissett had just joined the organization when he ascended into a starting role and should perform more effectively in 2019. He will also benefit from an offensive line that has been bolstered under Chris Ballard. However, the disparity in proficiency between Luck and Brissett is sizable, and this will impact Hilton. His Round 3 ADP was justified when he was primed to retain his role as Luck’s premier option. But the unexpected transformation under center drops Hilton from WR2 status and relegates him to a high-end WR3.
