Spencer Howard Back In The Big Leagues
3 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies recalled right-hander Spencer Howard, who threw 51 pitches at Triple-A just four days ago, on Wednesday. Howard will be available in Wednesday's bullpen game in a relief role, even though he'll be on short rest. Cristopher Sanchez is also expected to throw a few innings against the New York Yankees as the opener, but he won't be a recommended daily fantasy streamer. Once one of the Phillies top pitching prospects, Howard has really struggled this year and was optioned to Triple-A several weeks ago to continue his development. In nine outings (five starts) with the Phils this year, Howard has a 5.82 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, 27 strikeouts and 16 walks in 21 2/3 innings. The strikeouts have been nice, but he'll need to lower his 6.6 BB/9 to have a shot at a rotation role again. For now, he can be ignored in single-season leagues.
