Samaje Perine 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook: Pass-Catching Specialist Sees Value Boost After Joining Chiefs
3 months agoIn his first year with the Denver Broncos in 2023, running back Samaje Perine was effective in a pass-catching role out of the backfield, posting career-highs in receptions (50), targets (56), and receiving yards (455) in 17 games (one start). However, he found the end zone just once and never established himself in a committee involving Javonte Williams and the undrafted Jaleel McLaughlin. The addition of rookie Audric Estime to Denver's RB room ended up spelling the end for Perine in Denver after just one season. On Aug. 27, the Broncos cut Perine as they trimmed their roster down to the required 53 heading into the regular season. The 28-year-old quickly landed on his feet and stays in the AFC West, though, after signing with the Kansas City Chiefs a day later. Perine might take some time to learn a new offense, but landing with the two-time defending Super Bowl champs certainly raises his fantasy value considerably, especially if he can carve out a third-down role. With just over a week left until a Week 1 showdown against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night, Perine's draft stock should perk up as an RB4/flex in PPR setups.
