Chad Ruhwedel Retires From NHL
Source: NHL.com
Defenseman Chad Ruhwedel announced his retirement from the NHL on Tuesday through the NHL Players Association. He has decided to hang up his skates following a 13-year career, during which Ruhwedel made 369 regular-season appearances. The San Diego-born blue-liner recorded 50 points (13 goals, 37 assists), along with 350 blocks and 622 hits. Ruhwedel, who was not drafted, started his career with the Buffalo Sabres and also suited up for the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers. He won the Stanley Cup with the Penguins in 2017. The Rangers used Ruhwedel in five games last season.Ronald Acuna Jr. to be Activated Soon
Ronald Acuna Jr. (calf) is reportedly with the team and should be activated from the injured list soon. Braves' manager Brian Snitker recently told reporters that Acuna won't require a minor league rehab assignment. That means, Acuna should be ready to play at some point this week. There currently is no timetable in place, but fantasy managers shouldn't be shocked if Acuna returns by this weekend. The superstar outfielder has been sidelined since late July due to a right calf strain. Fantasy managers should continue checking back throughout the week for more updates on Acuna's status.Source: Mark Bowman
Atlanta Braves outfielder Najee Harris Does Some Jogging on Tuesday
Najee Harris (eye) has made some progress and was able to do some jogging at training camp on Tuesday, according to Daniel Popper of The Athletic. Harris has gotten off to a bad start with his new team, suffering an eye injury during a fireworks mishap on the Fourth of July. The former Steelers RB remains on the Physically Unable to Perform list and has yet to practice with the rest of the team. What initially seemed like a minor injury actually has a chance to keep the 27-year-old sidelined for the start of the 2025 regular season. The former first-rounder has been durable in his NFL career and has recorded 1,000 rushing yards in each of his four seasons, but he's lacked big-play ability and could very well take a back seat to rookie first-rounder Omarion Hampton whenever he gets back on the field. Harris has fallen to RB49 status at RotoBaller.Source: The Athletic - Daniel Popper
Los Angeles Chargers running back Jack Johnson Signs Tryout Deal with Wild
Source: NHL.com
Defenseman Jack Johnson has signed a professional tryout contract with the Minnesota Wild. The veteran rearguard aims to impress during training camp to extend his NHL career into a 20th year. Last season, Johnson made 41 appearances with the Columbus Blue Jackets, registering six assists, 23 shots on goal, 35 blocks, and 21 hits. It's been years since the Indianapolis, Indiana native made an impact in fantasy hockey, but Johnson could add some much-needed depth on the blue line for the Wild, who are expected to begin the campaign without Jonas Brodin (upper body).Lars Nootbaar Absent on Tuesday
Lars Nootbaar (knee) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Colorado Rockies. This doesn't come as a surprise considering Nootbaar fouled a ball off his knee during Monday's contest. He was later pulled out of the contest in place of Jordan Walker. The Cardinals will take the cautious approach and rest Nootbaar on Tuesday. He's not expected to land on the injured list, so fantasy managers should consider Nootbaar as day-to-day. Walker will cover right field and bat sixth versus left-hander Kyle Freeland on Tuesday. Fantasy managers should make sure to pull Nootbaar out of their lineups.Source: mlb.com
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Omarion Hampton to Share the Backfield
Najee Harris (eye) isn't ready to go for the Week 1 regular-season opener, rookie first-rounder Omarion Hampton will rotate in with another back. Who the other RB is remains wide open, according to Roman. If Harris isn't ready for Week 1, it would be either Kimani Vidal or Hassan Haskins sharing backfield touches with Hampton. With that said, Hampton's fantasy value heading into his first year in the NFL has continued to go up with Harris still on the Physically Unable to Perform list thanks to a fireworks accident that injured his eye. RotoBaller has Hampton ranked as the No. 13 fantasy RB currently. He's expected to be L.A.'s primary back by season's end, regardless of Harris' health, and he has intriguing big-play ability in what will be a run-first offensive attack.Source: ESPN.com - Kris Rhim
Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Greg Roman said that even if running back Kraken Extend Ryker Evans with Two-Year Deal
Source: NHL.com
Seattle Kraken defenseman Ryker Evans has landed a new two-year, $4.1 million contract with the team. He became a restricted free agent this offseason after finishing his entry-level contract. Evans had his first full season in the NHL last term, enjoying a productive year. The 23-year-old recorded 25 points (five goals, 20 assists), 106 blocks, and 123 hits in 73 regular-season appearances. Seattle hopes to see another leap from him in 2025-26. "Ryker took a positive step forward in his first full season in the NHL," Kraken general manager Jason Botterill said. "Since turning pro, he's shown improvement year over year, and we're confident he'll take his game to another level next season. We're happy to have him under contract."Brendan Donovan Returning on Tuesday
Brendan Donovan (groin) is back in the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Colorado Rockies. Donovan is back in the mix after being held out of the starting lineup during the last three games due to a lingering groin issue. He was able to pinch-hit on Monday and hit a go-ahead two-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning. He'll cover second base and bat leadoff versus left-hander Kyle Freeland on Tuesday. Fantasy managers should make sure to get Donovan back in there.Source: mlb.com
St. Louis Cardinals infielder/outfielder Calvin Austin III, Jonnu Smith Considered Day-to-Day
Calvin Austin III (abdomen) and tight end Jonnu Smith (knee) are considered day-to-day. "Hopefully they're back sooner rather than later," Tomlin said. The head coach categorized Smith's injury as knee soreness, while Austin is working through a minor abdominal issue. It remains to be seen if either play will suit up for the second preseason game on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but even if they don't, they should be ready for the Week 1 regular-season opener in early September. Austin has the inside track to be the WR2 behind DK Metcalf this year, but that role is still unlikely to give the 26-year-old enough volume to make him an every-week starter in fantasy. Meanwhile, Smith lost most of his fantasy appeal in the offseason trade from Miami to Pittsburgh.Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ray Fittipaldo
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said that wide receiver Andres Gimenez Reinstated and Starting on Tuesday
Andres Gimenez (ankle) from the 10-day injured list and designated infielder Buddy Kennedy for assignment in a corresponding move. Gimenez will return to second base and bat ninth in Tuesday's series opener against the visiting Chicago Cubs and right-hander Javier Assad, who will be making his season debut. The 26-year-old won't carry much DFS appeal at all at the bottom of Toronto's batting order. He's gone 1-for-3 against Assad in his career. Gimenez went 7-for-18 with a steal and three runs scored in five minor-league rehab games, but he's mostly a glove-first guy that doesn't do much for fantasy managers in mixed leagues. He's returning to a .218/.300/.322 slash line with five home runs, 23 RBI, 26 runs scored and 10 stolen bases on the season in 61 games played.Source: Toronto Blue Jays
The Toronto Blue Jays announced on Tuesday that they reinstated infielder Yoendrys Gomez Called Up to Start on Tuesday
Yoendrys Gomez from Triple-A Charlotte, and he will make the start on Tuesday night against the division-rival Detroit Tigers. In a corresponding move, the team optioned right-hander Elvis Peguero to Charlotte. Gomez debuted in the big leagues in 2023 with the New York Yankees and has made 18 relief appearances since then with the Yanks, Los Angeles Dodgers and White Sox, but this will be his first start. In 17 2/3 innings pitched this year with all three of the aforementioned clubs, the 25-year-old has allowed 14 runs (13 earned) on 20 hits (three homers) while walking 13 and striking out 13. He has worked as a starter for the last few months in the minors, so he's stretched out, but fantasy managers should be avoiding him everywhere against the first-place Tigers.Source: Chicago White Sox
The Chicago White Sox announced on Tuesday that they selected the contract of right-hander Miguel Vargas Reinstated and Starting Against Tigers
Miguel Vargas (oblique) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday, the team announced. Vargas is starting at first base and is batting sixth in Tuesday's contest against the division-rival Detroit Tigers and right-hander Jack Flaherty. The 25-year-old miss the minimum of 10 days due to a minor oblique strain, and he'll be hoping to continue swinging a hot bat after he had an .874 OPS in 13 games since the All-Star break. Overall, though, the Cuban infielder has hit a very mediocre .229/.305/.402 on the season with a .707 OPS, 13 home runs, 44 RBI, 57 runs and four stolen bases in his 393 at-bats. There's not a ton of fantasy upside here, especially in DFS. Vargas has faced Flaherty 10 times in his career and has two hits.Source: Chicago White Sox
The Chicago White Sox reinstated infielder Logan Henderson Hoping to Return in Late September
Logan Henderson (elbow) is on the docket for a target return of late September/early October, according to Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. It means that while Henderson could still help the Brew Crew for a playoff run, he's essentially done producing for fantasy managers in 2025. The 23-year-old former fourth-rounder in 2021 made his major-league debut this year and didn't disappoint, going 3-0 with a 1.78 ERA (2.99 FIP), 0.99 WHIP and 33:8 K:BB in 25 1/3 innings over only five starts. He's attempting to return from a flexor strain in his right elbow, so the Brewers aren't going to rush one of the young pitching talents. If Henderson does return for Milwaukee in late September or early October, there's a good chance he'll be used in a relief role.Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Curt Hogg

Javier Assad Reinstated and Starting on Tuesday
Javier Assad (oblique) from the 60-day injured list on Tuesday, according to the team. Assad is expected to start on Tuesday night on the road against the Toronto Blue Jays instead of right-hander Ben Brown, who was originally listed as Tuesday's starter. In a corresponding move, the team optioned right-hander Nate Pearson to Triple-A Iowa. The 28-year-old Assad will be making his 2025 debut at Rogers Centre against the first-place Blue Jays, so we'd recommend avoiding him in his first start back in a bad matchup. Assad pitched well in the minors during his rehab assignment and could be an option for fantasy managers in a pinch in deeper leagues. The Mexican hurler had his first full season as a starter last year and held his own with a 3.73 ERA, but it also came with a 1.40 WHIP and weak 7.6 K/9 in 29 starts.Source: Chicago Sun-Times - Maddie Lee
The Chicago Cubs reinstated right-hander Miguel Amaya Activated From Injured List
Miguel Amaya (oblique) from the 60-day injured list on Tuesday and designated utility player Jon Berti for assignment in a corresponding move, per the Chicago Sun-Times' Maddie Lee. The Cubs have not released their lineup for Tuesday's game at the Toronto Blue Jays, so it's unclear if Amaya will be in the starting lineup in his first day back in the big leagues. The 26-year-old backstop has been sidelined since May 25 with a strained left oblique. It's definitely a boost for the struggling Cubbies, but Amaya isn't going to have much fantasy value in single-catcher leagues, as he's expected to be the No. 2 to Carson Kelly behind the dish in Chicago. It wasn't like Amaya was slumping at the plate before his injury, though, as he slashed .280/.313/.505 with four long balls, 25 RBI and 14 runs scored in an even 100 plate appearances.Source: Chicago Sun-Times - Maddie Lee
The Chicago Cubs activated catcher Rondale Moore Out for the Season With Knee Injury
Rondale Moore (knee) has suffered another season-ending knee injury, according to Alec Lewis of The Athletic. This one really hurts for Moore, who also missed the the entire 2024 campaign with the Atlanta Falcons due to a knee injury. The 25-year-old was selected in the second round (49th overall) in 2021 by the Arizona Cardinals out of Purdie. Moore spent the first three seasons of his career in the desert, catching 135 of 182 targets for 1,201 yards and only three touchdowns (one per year) in 39 games (23 starts) over those three seasons. It might be an uphill battle the rest of his career for him to get back to a prominent role on offense in the NFL. Moore wasn't really on the fantasy radar to begin with in 12-team leagues, but his injury is significant for a WR room that will also be without Jordan Addison (suspension) for the first four games.Source: The Athletic - Alec Lewis

Zach Eflin to Undergo Back Surgery, Out for the Year
Zach Eflin (back) will undergo a lumbar microdisectomy on his lower back and will miss the rest of the season, according to The Baltimore Banner's Andy Kostka. Eflin was on the injured list two different times with back issues earlier this year and had an injection in his back in early August before eventually opting for season-ending surgery. The 31-year-old only ended up making 14 starts in his first full season in Baltimore, going 6-5 with a 5.93 ERA (5.62 FIP) and 1.42 WHIP with 50 strikeouts and 13 walks in 71 1/3 innings pitched. Perhaps he would have been better in 2025 if he wasn't injured, but with the Orioles out of playoff contention, it didn't make sense to try and bring him back this year. Although Eflin's control helps him, he's not likely to be very popular in fantasy going into next season.Source: The Baltimore Banner - Andy Kostka
Baltimore Orioles right-hander Jacory Croskey-Merritt Dealing With Minor Shoulder Injury
Jacory Croskey-Merritt (shoulder) did not take part in the scrimmage on Tuesday due to a minor shoulder injury that he picked up in the preseason opener last week against the New England Patriots, according to John Keim of ESPN. Keim adds that the Commanders were just taking precaution by holding the rookie out on Tuesday at training camp. The 24-year-old had eight touches for 32 yards last week and is expected to make the final 53-man roster heading into the regular season. The seventh-rounder will now compete for the No. 3 role in D.C. with Jeremy McNichols and Chris Rodriguez Jr. behind Austin Ekeler and Brian Robinson Jr. Croskey-Merritt is most likely going to need an injury to one or both of Ekeler and B-Rob in order to become a popular midseason waiver-wire target.Source: ESPN.com - John Keim
Washington Commanders rookie running back Miles Sanders Returns to Tuesday's Practice
Miles Sanders (knee) was back at Tuesday's training camp practice in full pads, according to Todd Archer of ESPN. Meanwhile, rookie Jaydon Blue (heel) remained out. Sanders returns to the gridiron after missing around two weeks due to a left-knee bruise, including Dallas' preseason opener on Saturday against the Los Angeles Rams. The 28-year-old veteran will now continue to split first-team work in the backfield with Javonte Williams now that he's over his knee issue. Because Sanders is back so early in the week, he figures to suit up for the second preseason game on Saturday against the Baltimore Ravens. Sanders will have a role in Dallas' backfield, but this could be a full-on committee between Williams, Sanders and Blue by the time the regular season roles around, limiting Sanders' already weak fantasy value after a couple disappointing seasons in Carolina.Source: ESPN Dallas - Todd Archer
Dallas Cowboys running back Shedeur Sanders has Outplayed Dillon Gabriel
Shedeur Sanders has "generally outplayed Dillon Gabriel throughout camp." Sanders also "delivered a steady, poised performance" last Friday in the preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers, who played most of their defensive starters the first two series. Despite the fact that Sanders impressed during the preseason opener and threw two touchdowns, he was still listed as fourth on the QB depth chart this week behind Gabriel. Gabriel missed the preseason opener due to a minor hamstring injury, but he's been back at practice and could start the second preseason game this Saturday against the Eagles. If Gabriel struggles this week, it's possible that Sanders could pass him on the unofficial depth chart. Either way, neither Sanders nor Gabriel are realistic contenders for the starting gig come Week 1.Source: The Athletic - Zac Jackson
The Athletic's Zac Jackson writes that Cleveland Browns rookie fifth-round quarterback Calvin Austin III Dealing With Abdominal Injury
Calvin Austin III (abdomen) has been dealing with a minor abdominal muscle issue, sources told Alan Saunders of PGH Steelers Now. According to Austin's agent, it is the only reason that he has not been practicing with the team at training camp. Austin has missed practice for several days and didn't play in last week's preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Head coach Mike Tomlin said he expects Austin to return to practice soon, and his injury isn't expected to impact his readiness for Week 1 of the regular season. He's entering the final year of his current deal, but his agent, Rodney Williams, confirmed that his client isn't holding out. If healthy, the 26-year-old is the favorite for WR2 duties in Pittsburgh in 2025 behind DK Metcalf, although that role isn't expected to yield much volume for what should be a run-first offense.Source: PGH Steelers Now - Alan Saunders
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Cooper Ingle Headed to Triple-A Columbus
Cooper Ingle has been promoted to Triple-A Columbus. The Guardians' fifth-ranked prospect showed well at Double-A Akron before his promotion, hitting .273 with nine home runs while walking nearly as much as he struck out (65:70 BB:K) in 92 games for the RubberDucks. The 23-year-old backstop now sits on the doorstep to the majors and should be in the mix to join the big league club sometime next year. While he has shown some surprising pop, he's better known for his hit tool, and his .410 career OBP in the minors could translate to the majors.Source: MiLB.com
Cleveland Guardians catching prospect Mason Taylor a Full-Go at Practice
Mason Taylor (ankle) has returned to training camp practice and is a full-go, according to Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic. Taylor has recovered quickly from what was being called a high-ankle sprain. The 21-year-old second-rounder missed the team's preseason opener last week, but now that he's back to full practices, he should be able to suit up for Saturday's second preseason game against the New York Giants. Fantasy managers in redraft leagues are probably going to ignore Taylor in 12-team leagues, but it's worth noting that he's fully expected to open the year as the Jets' top pass-catching tight end. The Jets' offense is expected to lean heavily on the ground game, but quarterback Justin Fields won't have many weapons to throw to outside of WR1 Garrett Wilson. Taylor should be a TE3 with upside for more.Source: The Athletic - Zack Rosenblatt
New York Jets rookie tight end Eduardo Tait a Big Riser in Latest Prospect Ranks
Eduardo Tait was a big riser on MLB.com's August refresh of their top prospects list, moving up 39 spots from No. 93 to No. 54. The Panamanian backstop was recently acquired by the Twins in the trade that sent closer Jhoan Duran to the Phillies and now slots in as the Twins' second-ranked prospect. The 18-year-old is hitting .254 on the year with 12 home runs in 90 games between the two organizations, striking out at a better-than-average rate of 18.8 percent, and is so young that he could grow into even more power. He's still a few years away from the majors, though, so his progress should be monitored as he could end up as an offensive-minded catcher in the big leagues.Source: MLB.com
Minnesota Twins catching prospect Rashee Rice Looking Sharp in Practice
Rashee Rice was looking sharp during Tuesday's training camp practice, according to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team. Rice previously dealt with a groin injury in camp and was held out of the preseason opener on Saturday against the Arizona Cardinals, but he looks fully healthy now as he prepares for his third year in the league. The 25-year-old was on his way to a breakout sophomore campaign in 2024 before suffering a season-ending torn LCL in his knee in Week 4. He had 79 catches for 938 yards and seven touchdowns in 16 regular-season games (eight starts) as a rookie, too, so if it wasn't for his potential four- to six-game suspension this year, Rice would be a firm WR2 target in upcoming fantasy drafts. Even with a looming suspension, Rice is in the WR3/flex conversation as KC's No. 1 wideout when he's available.Source: The 33rd Team - Ari Meirov
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Alex Clemmey Headed for Double-A Harrisburg
Alex Clemmey is getting promoted to Double-A Harrisburg after a strong showing at High-A Wilmington. The Nationals' fifth-ranked prospect posted a 2.47 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and tallied the second-most strikeouts in the South Atlantic League with 113 in 87 1/3 innings pitched. The southpaw's arsenal includes a mid-90s fastball, a low-80s slider, and a changeup, which generates a high strikeout rate (30.0 percent) but comes with a high walk rate (15.9 percent) that will need to improve as he climbs the ranks. He's only 20 years old and boasts a 6-foot-6 build that could help add velocity down the road, so he's a name to keep an eye on in dynasty leagues.Source: Chase Ford
Washington Nationals pitching prospect Caleb Williams "Hasn't Been Consistent Enough"
Caleb Williams has had good moments in training camp this summer, but it "hasn't been consistent enough," and the "accuracy hasn't been there like it was last summer." Fishbain lists Williams' stock as neutral right now after a sloppy practice on Monday. He also cautions that there's still almost a month until the season opener, and Williams has the right coach calling plays and an upgraded offensive line in front of him. "It hasn't been a smooth camp for the passing offense." It wasn't all terrible for the former first overall pick in his rookie season, as he threw for 3,541 yards and 20 touchdowns against only six interceptions. However, he was sacked a league-high 68 times and remains a work in progress going into his sophomore season. There's still plenty of upside, but he's best drafted as a high-end QB2 as he continues to devlop.Source: The Athletic - Kevin Fishbain
The Athletic's Kevin Fishbain writes that Chicago Bears quarterback
