Josh Naylor Day-to-Day With Shoulder Soreness
Josh Naylor (shoulder) left Thursday's 4-3 win over the Chicago White Sox with shoulder soreness and is considered day-to-day, manager Dan Wilson told reporters. The Mariners pulled Naylor after he grounded out in the bottom of the third inning, replacing him at first base with Donovan Solano. Naylor ended the game 0-for-2, but he has been highly productive since joining the Mariners in a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 24. In 13 games since then, Naylor has gone 12-for-46 (.260) with three homers, six RBI, eight runs scored, and a surprising 10 stolen bases. The 28-year-old now has his first 20-steal season (21) and has slashed a solid .289/.355/.451 with 14 HRs, 65 RBI, and 57 runs over 445 plate appearances. Fantasy managers should check back Friday to see if he's in the lineup to open a series against the Tampa Bay Rays.Source: Daniel Kramer - MLB.com
Seattle Mariners first baseman Jose Alvarado Beginning Rehab Assignment on Thursday
Jose Alvarado is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Thursday. Alvarado has been out since the middle of May due to an 80-game suspension for breaking the performance-enhancing substance policy. He's currently eligible to return on August 19, so he'll begin ramping up in the minor leagues. Alvarado has a 2.70 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and a 25/4 K/BB ratio with seven saves in 20 appearances with the Phillies this season. He was splitting up the closing duties with Jordan Romano before getting suspended. Now, Alvarado is basically useless in fantasy formats with the Phillies adding Jhoan Duran at the trade deadline. Fantasy managers shouldn't bother adding Alvarado.Source: Scott Lauber
Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Jose Urquidy Making Rehab Start on Thursday
Jose Urquidy (elbow) is scheduled to take the mound for a rehab start with Single-A Lakeland on Thursday. Urquidy threw a scoreless inning during his first rehab outing on Sunday. He figures to see a slightly larger workload this time around. If everything goes well, Urquidy should continue to ramp up his activities. The right-hander is working his way back from Tommy John surgery from last year. The hope is that he can contribute to the Tigers rotation at some point before the end of the regular season. He's not someone worth stashing in fantasy leagues right now.Source: Lakeland Flying Tigers
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Sean Murphy Takes a Seat on Thursday
Sean Murphy is out of the starting lineup ahead of Thursday's game against the Miami Marlins. This appears to be a routine rest day for Murphy who has started in four straight games. During that span, Murphy only has one hit, so he could use a rest day to get himself back on track. In his absence, Drake Baldwin will do the catching with Marcell Ozuna taking over the designated hitter spot on Thursday. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups accordingly ahead of first pitch.Source: mlb.com
Atlanta Braves catcher Tyler Stephenson Resting on Thursday
Tyler Stephenson is out of the starting lineup ahead of Thursday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. This appears to be a routine rest day for Stephenson who has been in a mini slump lately. Over the last three games, Stephenson is 1-for-9 at the plate with one home run, one RBI, and two walks. Stephenson has played quite a bit lately, so he deserves a rest day. Jose Trevino will take over the catching duties and bat eighth versus right-hander Paul Skenes on Thursday.Source: mlb.com
Cincinnati Reds catcher Josh Naylor Removed Early on Thursday
Josh Naylor (undisclosed) was forced to make an early exit from Thursday's game against the Chicago White Sox. Naylor looked uncomfortable during his at-bat in the third inning and appeared to be grabbing his side. He grounded out to end the inning and was removed from the contest. Donovan Solano took over first base when the Mariners took the field during the next half inning. Naylor finished this game 0-for-2 at the plate. The expectation is that Naylor will undergo further examination to determine the severity of the issue. It's not exactly clear what's going on right now, so fantasy managers should check back after the game.Source: Ryan Divish
Seattle Mariners first baseman Jacob Lopez Shuts Down the Nats, Fans 10 in Fifth Win
Jacob Lopez was at the top of his game in the team's 6-0 shutout win over the hosting Washington Nationals on Thursday in a matinee game in D.C. Lopez didn't allow a run in 7 2/3 innings while allowing only three hits, walking none and striking out a season-high 10 batters. The 27-year-old southpaw has been up and down in his first year with the A's, but he's been downright fantastic of late, throwing 17 straight scoreless innings in his last three starts. Before that, though, Lopez had an ERA over 7.00. With the dominant outing on Thursday against Washington, Lopez has his season ERA down to 3.59 on the year in 18 appearances (14 starts) while striking out 94 and walking 30 in 77 2/3 innings pitched. For the strikeout upside alone, he's worth starting again in deeper leagues his next time out, which is scheduled to come against the Rays.Source: MLB.com

Chris Sale Throws Successful Sim Game, Rehab Assignment Could Be Close
Chris Sale (ribs) threw a successful 30-pitch simulated game on Thursday and didn't have any issues, and if he feels good on Friday, the next step will be a minor-league rehab assignment, according to David O'Brien of The Athletic. Barring a setback once Sale begins throwing in minor-league games, the 36-year-old veteran southpaw should be ready to return from the 60-day injured list on Aug. 19. He is recovering from a fractured left rib cage that has kept him sidelined since the middle of June. Fantasy managers should be stashing Sale in an IL spot in all leagues in the meantime. Before getting hurt, the former first-rounder had gone 5-4 with a 2.52 ERA (2.69 FIP) and 1.16 WHIP with 114 strikeouts and 26 walks in 89 1/3 innings over his 15 starts in his 15th big-league season. Injuries continue to be an issue, but Sale has been strong when he's been available.Source: The Athletic - David O'Brien
Atlanta Braves left-hander Ronald Acuna Jr. Looking Good While Taking Batting Practice
Ronald Acuna Jr. (calf) is hitting bombs in batting practice and also took ground balls on the infield this week, according to The Athletic's David O'Brien. Acuna has is "showing absolutely no lingering sign of the mild right-calf strain that landed him on the 10-day injured list." It was initially feared that Acuna suffered a serious Achilles injury, but it was later announced that the 27-year-old former MVP is dealing with a mild calf injury. The Braves aren't going to rush the superstar outfielder back in what has become a lost season, but he should be able to return before the end of the season. Acuna was projected to miss two to three weeks. Once he resumes running, he could be close to going on a rehab assignment. Fantasy managers will want to keep him stashed in the meantime. Eli White has been Atlanta's right fielder with Acuna down.Source: The Athletic - David O'Brien
Atlanta Braves outfielder Jeferson Quero Activated from Injured List
Jeferson Quero (shoulder) was activated from the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday. The Brewers' fourth-ranked prospect was dealing with a shoulder sprain and hasn't played since July 23. The 22-year-old got a late start to the season recovering from injuries to his shoulder and hamstring, so he has logged just 30 games for the Sounds so far this year. The Venezuelan backstop slashed .259/.333/.362 with a pair of home runs and an 11:15 BB:K in those 30 contests, and will hopefully put the injury issues behind him for the remainder of the year. He had a good chance to make a major league debut this season, but is less likely now after so much time missed. With William Contreras locked in at catcher, there's no need to rush him up, but Quero should debut next season and bring some decent pop along with him, although his stellar defense could be a big reason behind his eventual promotion.Source: Adam McCalvy
Milwaukee Brewers catching prospect Leodalis De Vries Logs Two Hits, Drives in Three on Wednesday
Leodalis De Vries is making a good first impression with his new organization after coming to the A's in the Mason Miller trade. The team's top prospect went 2-for-5 on Wednesday with three RBI, and is now 7-for-25 (.280) with a double, a triple, six RBI, and three runs scored in six games for High-A Lansing. A 41.4 percent strikeout rate in those six contests is eye-opening, however, the youngster is just one of a handful of 18-year-olds at High-A, and some adjustment to the new system should be expected. With a well-rounded toolset, expect the switch-hitter to continue to climb the ladder over the next couple of seasons, and the Dominican should be stashed away in dynasty leagues.Source: MiLB.com
Athletics shortstop prospect Alfredo Duno Gets on Base Four Times on Wednesday
Alfredo Duno went 3-for-5 on Wednesday at Single-A Daytona, including a walk, two doubles, two RBI, and a run scored. The Reds' fifth-ranked prospect is 7-for-12 (.583) over his last four games, and is slashing .274/.415/.455 on the year with nine home runs and nearly as many walks (72) as strikeouts (78) in 89 games. The 19-year-old catapulted into MLB.com's Top 100 in their July refresh, currently sitting at 81st overall, and could continue to climb up the ranks. The young Venezuelan boasts strong exit velocities and an excellent approach that has helped him to a career .415 OBP through 166 minor league games. He should be squarely on dynasty managers' radar now and could be in the majors as early as 2027.Source: MiLB.com
Cincinnati Reds catching prospect Cam Caminiti Fans Eight on Wednesday at Single-A
Source: MiLB.com
Atlanta Braves pitching prospect Cam Caminiti pitched well again at Single-A Augusta on Wednesday, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks while striking out eight over five innings of work. The Braves' top prospect has been phenomenal over his last seven starts, posting a 1.61 ERA (2.21 FIP), 1.14 WHIP, and striking out 43 batters over 28 innings pitched. The 2024 first-rounder got a late start to the season due to forearm tendinitis, making just nine starts in all for the GreenJackets, but looks ready for a challenge at High-A. Whether that happens this year or next, Caminiti is a name to keep an eye on, as he could be a quick mover through the organization. At just 18 years old, he's still a couple of years away from the majors, but the Braves aren't shy about bringing pitches up early, and even having them go straight from Double-A to the majors, so fantasy managers shouldn't be caught off guard.Nelson Rada Settling in at Triple-A Salt Lake
Nelson Rada was promoted to Triple-A Salt Lake on August 2, and since then, he's recorded a hit in each of the three games he's played. The Angels' sixth-ranked prospect is 3-for-12 (.250) with three RBI, three runs scored, a 1:2 BB:K, and three stolen bases. It is much like what he had put on display at Double-A, where he hit .277 with 34 steals over 93 games for Double-A Rocket City. The 5-foot-9 Venezuelan doesn't offer much power, though, as he's tallied just five home runs in 1371 career at-bats in the minors. Nevertheless, at 19 years old, he's the youngest player at Triple-A, which should give you an idea of how talented he is, although the lack of power somewhat diminishes his potential fantasy value. The left-handed hitter could debut in the big leagues next year, and his defense will help get him there.Source: Taylor Blake Ward
