Texas Rangers starting pitcher
Merrill Kelly was excellent on the mound during Sunday's outing against the Cleveland Guardians. Kelly came into this game riding a hot stretch on the mound and it continued on Sunday. The right-hander tossed seven shutout innings, allowing four hits while striking out eight batters in the win. Kelly has been outstanding in the second half of the season. He has allowed two runs or less in eight of his last nine starts. Kelly is lined up for a favorable start against the Athletics next weekend. The veteran right-hander should be rostered and started in most fantasy formats right now.

Toronto Blue Jays first baseman
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (hamstring) remained out of the starting lineup for the fifth straight game on Sunday. Guerrero hasn't started in a game since being pulled from Monday's game due to hamstring inflammation. The good news is that Guerrero was able to come off the bench as a pinch-hitter on Sunday. He popped out with two runners on during his lone plate appearance in the eighth inning. The fact he was able to come off the bench means that Guerrero should be nearing a return to the lineup. Fantasy managers should expect Guerrero back in the starting lineup early next week.

The Seattle Mariners have released infielder/outfielder
Dylan Moore after he cleared unconditional waivers, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports. The Mariners designated Moore for assignment on Sunday, and nobody was willing to take the remainder of his $3.58 million salary on waivers, so now they'll move on entirely. The versatile 33-year-old, who had been the Mariners' longest-tenured player before they cut him, will search for a bench role elsewhere. Moore has taken 213 trips to the plate this year and hit .193/.263/.359 with nine homers, 19 RBI, 29 runs scored, and 12 stolen bases. He owns a more effective career line of .205/.310/.381 with 61 HRs and 116 steals across 1,892 plate appearances.

The New York Yankees will activate right-handed reliever
Fernando Cruz (oblique) from the 15-day injured list on Monday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. Cruz last pitched on June 27 and has missed about two months with a strained left oblique, depriving the Yankees of one of their most reliable high-leverage arms. San Diego Padres right-hander
Michael King (knee) threw a three-inning, 44-pitch simulated game on Sunday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. King came out of the session unscathed, though it's unclear if he'll rejoin the Padres during the upcoming week or go on a rehab assignment. The 30-year-old landed on the 15-day injured list with left-knee inflammation on Aug. 11, continuing an injury-ravaged season. King missed two-plus months with shoulder troubles and lasted just two innings in his first start back on Aug. 9, a 5-4 win over the Boston Red Sox, before succumbing to another injury. The recovery this time has been "way more straightforward," according to King. Although he has only totaled 11 starts this season, King has made an impact. He's 4-2 with a 2.81 ERA, a 1.09 WHIP, and 65 strikeouts against 19 walks over 57 2/3 innings.

The Los Angeles Angels announced that they have reinstated right-hander
Jose Soriano from the restricted list. The team placed Soriano on the list Saturday to give him an extra day to travel back from the Dominican Republic after the birth of his child. Now that he's back, Soriano is in line to make his 27th start of the season on Monday against the Texas Rangers. In three meetings with Texas this year, Soriano has gone 0-3 while allowing nine earned runs on 18 hits and posting 13 strikeouts against nine walks in 16 2/3 innings. Over 148 2/3 frames this season, the 26-year-old has logged an 8-9 record with a 4.00 ERA, a 1.38 WHIP, and 130:64 K:BB.

The Los Angeles announced that they have placed first baseman
Nolan Schanuel (wrist) on the 10-day injured list with a left-wrist contusion and recalled outfielder
Matthew Lugo from Triple-A Salt Lake. Schanuel exited the Angels' 12-1 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Saturday after injuring his wrist on a diving play in the field, and he'll now head to the IL for the first time in his career. Chicago White Sox pitching prospect
Noah Schultz (knee) returned to the mound at Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday for the first time since July 3. Chicago's second-ranked prospect felt discomfort in his knee while warming up for his start on July 19, but appears to have made a full recovery. The 6-foot-10 southpaw only went two innings on Sunday, allowing one run (zero earned) on two hits and no walks while striking out four batters. The former first-rounder pitched well at Double-A to begin the year, but had a rude awakening at Triple-A, allowing 15 earned runs in 11 1/3 innings pitched over his first three starts there. Regardless, fantasy managers should expect the 22-year-old to make a debut in the big leagues next year and should be an impactful starter with his big frame.

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop prospect
J.J. Wetherholt has not slowed down at Triple-A, going 3-for-4 on Saturday, including a walk, two doubles, and one run scored for Memphis. The Cardinals' top-ranked prospect has looked right at home at Triple-A, hitting .316 with a 1.055 OPS in 30 games at that level. Additionally, he's recorded seven starts at third base since his promotion, giving him multiple paths to the majors as we head down the final month of the regular season. With 19 steals on the year, he has some speed as well, and the 22-year-old is worthy of a stash in deep 12-team leagues for those with an available bench or NA spot.

Texas Rangers corner infielder
Jake Burger (wrist) has begun swinging a bat as part of a hitting progression. This is a step forward in his recovery process that will likely still take another week or so. Burger landed on the injured list on August 18 due a left wrist sprain. The hope is that he's ready to play around the 10-day mark, so it should hopefully be a minimal stint on the injured list.
Rowdy Tellez and
Ezequiel Duran should continue splitting up the plate appearances at first base until Burger is back.

Seattle Mariners outfield prospect
Lazaro Montes homered for the fourth time in his last four games on Saturday at Double-A Arkansas, which has also included six RBI and six runs scored over that stretch. The Mariners' third-ranked prospect is up to 32 home runs on the season, which is tied for the minor league lead. He's hitting just .224 with a 30.7 percent strikeout rate with Arkansas through 46 games, but has continued to draw walks at an above-average rate of 13.1 percent to help offset that. The 20-year-old needs to cut down on the K%, but his power is what will eventually propel him to the big leagues, which could come as soon as later next year or 2027.

Houston Astros designated hitter
Yordan Alvarez (hand) has a strong possibility of returning for Tuesday's game against the Colorado Rockies, according to manager Joe Espada. Alvarez is currently on track to play his fourth and likely his final rehab game with Double-A Corpus Christi on Sunday. Barring any setbacks, Alvarez should be ready for the beginning of their series against the Rockies. Alvarez has been sidelined since early May due to a fractured right hand. Fantasy managers should check back on Tuesday, but they should be able to get Alvarez back in their lineups early in the week

New York Mets pitching prospect
Brandon Sproat is getting a look at reliever and is expected to come out of the bullpen on Saturday for Triple-A Syracuse. The reason behind the shift is to give the 24-year-old some experience coming on in relief in the event that is what the Mets determine they need from him as they make a push for the playoffs. The Mets' fifth-ranked prospect owns a 4.24 ERA and 1.23 WHIP through 24 starts at Triple-A this season, but has pitched better since late June, recording a 2.05 ERA, a 0.85 WHIP, and a 21.3 percent K-BB% over his last nine starts. The righty allowed one run or less in six of those nine starts. While it is exciting for youngsters to get their shot in the majors, if Sproat's opportunity this season comes as a middle reliever, it would certainly dampen his fantasy value in 2025 redraft leagues, although his future as a starter for dynasty leagues remains bright.

Boston Red Sox starting pitchers
Richard Fitts and
Kyle Harrison are both candidates to take the mound for Monday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. The Red Sox are looking for a pitcher to fill the void in the rotation with
Walker Buehler heading to the bullpen. It would make the most sense for the Red Sox to start Fitts, who is already on the roster. They recalled him as an extra bullpen arm for their series against the New York Yankees. Fitts holds a 4.83 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and a 34/13 K/BB across 10 starts this season. Otherwise, Harrison would need to be recalled from Triple-A to make his team debut. He was traded to Boston in the deal that sent
Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants earlier this summer. Both pitchers would offer low-end streaming appeal for fantasy managers.
