Mason Barnett to Make Major-League Debut on Saturday
Mason Barnett will make his major-league debut on Saturday and start against the division-rival Texas Rangers, according to manager Mark Kotsay. Barnett, the team's 10th-ranked prospect per MLB Pipeline, will get the call to the big leagues for the first time after going 6-2 with a 6.13 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 124:65 K:BB in 119 innings over 25 appearances (23 starts) for Triple-A Las Vegas in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. With lefty Jacob Lopez (elbow) on the injured list, the 24-year-old right-hander will be auditioning for a starting rotation spot for the A's for the final month of the 2025 campaign. The Rangers are a friendly matchup for opposing starters, but Barnett will only be a streaming option for the desperate in DFS and deep fantasy leagues. The 6-foot, 218-pounder mostly relies on a mid-to-high-90s fastball, a sweeperish slider, a curveball and a changeup.Source: Jessica Kleinschmidt

Wilyer Abreu Unlikely to Return Before End of Homestand
Wilyer Abreu (calf) is receiving treatment this weekend and will attempt to run again on Monday. It sounds as though Abreu probably won't come off the 10-day injured list before the end of the team's current homestand on Wednesday, Sept. 3, per Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald. The 26-year-old has been slow to recover from an injured right calf, and it's unclear if he'll need a short minor-league rehab assignment before rejoining the big-league roster. When Abreu does return, though, he should be a regular in right field against right-handed pitchers, which will likely push Ceddanne Rafaela back to second base. The Venezuelan outfielder has already hit a career-high 22 home runs while driving in 69 and stealing six bases in 108 games in his third big-league season in Beantown.Source: Boston Herald - Mac Cerullo
Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that outfielder Freddie Freeman Back in Friday's Lineup
Freddie Freeman (neck) is back at first base and is batting third for Friday's series opener against the division-rival Arizona Diamondbacks and right-hander Zac Gallen. Freeman did not play in Wednesday's series finale against the Cincinnati Reds due to a neck stinger, but he's back on the field on Friday after a scheduled off day on Thursday. The 35-year-old veteran will return to face a familiar foe in Gallen, who he has hit .273 against with an .897 OPS, two home runs and six RBI in 22 career at-bats. The nine-time All-Star and former MVP should be returned to all starting fantasy lineups to begin the holiday weekend. Freeman is hitting a league-best .302 (136-for-451) on the season and has been even better in August, going 29-for-91 (.319) with seven long balls, seven doubles, 19 RBI and even two steals in 24 games.Source: MLB.com
As expected, Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Stephen Kolek to Make Royals Debut on Saturday
Stephen Kolek on Saturday night against the division-rival Detroit Tigers, according to Jaylon T. Thompon of The Kansas City Star. Kolek will be making his debut with the team after Kansas City acquired him at the trade deadline at the end of July in exchange for catcher Freddy Fermin. The 28-year-old went 4-5 with the San Diego Padres with a 4.18 ERA (4.26 FIP) and 1.30 WHIP with 56 strikeouts and 26 walks in 79 2/3 innings over his 14 starts before the trade. Kolek struggled in five minor-league starts at Triple-A Omaha after the trade, allowing 15 runs (14 earned) on 30 hits while walking 10 and striking out 20 in 19 innings. The addition of Kolek this weekend means that Noah Cameron will be skipped in the rotation this weekend. Kolek will not be a recommended fantasy streamer against Detroit.Source: The Kansas City Star - Jaylon T. Thompson
The Kansas City Royals will start right-hander Jackson Chourio to Return From Injured List on Saturday
Jackson Chourio (hamstring) will be activated from the 10-day injured list on Saturday before Game 2 of the series in Toronto against the Blue Jays, according to Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Chourio is already with the club in Toronto, but the team wanted to give him a day to acclimate and make sure he's 100 percent after a long travel day. The 21-year-old will be returning to action on Saturday for the first time late July due to a right-hamstring strain. Milwaukee could ease him back into a starting role in the outfield, but Chourio should be rostered in all fantasy leagues as one of the best young power/speed outfielders in the game. Even though he went just 1-for-19 with eight strikeouts in five minor-league rehab games, fantasy managers will want to get Chourio back in their starting lineups on Saturday.Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Todd Rosiak
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Jack Suwinski Goes on Injured List With Groin Strain
Jack Suwinski (groin) on the 10-day injured list with a right-groin strain and recalled outfielder Ronny Simon from Triple-A Indianapolis in a corresponding move. Suwinski has been a platoon outfielder for the Pirates this year when he's been on the major-league roster, but he hasn't contributed much at all and was not a fantasy factor in mixed leagues whatsoever. The 27-year-old left-handed hitter is currently batting a weak .132 (16-for-121) with three home runs, eight RBI, 13 runs scored and six stolen bases in 48 games played in his fourth year in the majors. With Suwinski sidelined for at least the next 10 days, Alexander Canario and Simon could get some run in Pittsburgh's outfield.Source: Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pittsburgh Pirates announced on Friday that they placed outfielder Jakob Marsee Not Slowing Down in Major Leagues
Jakob Marsee has continued his dominant stretch in the major leagues. Over his last 11 games in Miami, the 24-year-old has posted a stellar .324/.383/.591 slash line with three doubles, two triples, one home run, and two stolen bases. During this impressive run, Marsee tallied 11 RBI and scored six runs. Through 27 total games in the big leagues, the No. 10-ranked prospect in the system has held a .358/.421/.653 line with four home runs and eight stolen bases. Marsee has generated a stellar .397 xwOBA and a 47.9% LA sweet-spot rate, which suggests he should continue to stay productive in the batter's box. Earlier this season, Marsee held a much lower .817 OPS through 98 games at Triple-A. Given his impressive debut in the big leagues, fantasy managers should continue to view Marsee as a must-start outfielder in all leagues.Source: MLB.com
Miami Marlins outfield prospect Kyle Karros Enjoying Productive Stretch in Colorado
Kyle Karros has enjoyed a productive stretch of offensive production in the batter's box. Over his last 14 games in Colorado, Karros has posted a strong .279/.367/.372 line with a .739 OPS. While he has only hit one home run over this stretch, Karros has racked up 10 runs and added two RBI. Through his first 18 total games in the big leagues, the former fifth-round pick has held a .276 AVG with a .743 OPS. Throughout his first stint in the majors, Karros has seen all his starts at the hot corner. Earlier this season, Karros spent time at both Double-A and Triple-A and carried an overall .301/.398/.476 line with an .874 OPS. Given his solid start to his MLB career, Karros is worth a look in deeper formats if you need a boost in runs and batting average.Source: MLB.com

Franklin Arias Enjoying Solid Debut Season at High-A
Franklin Arias has enjoyed a solid debut campaign at High-A. The 19-year-old began the season at the Low-A level but needed only 19 games with Slem to prove he was ready to join Greenville. Through his first 85 games at the High-A level, the top-ranked prospect in the Boston system has looked relatively comfortable, posting a .265/.327/.383 line with 21 doubles, six home runs, and seven stolen bases. Over his last 13 contests, the No. 33-ranked prospect in the sport (according to MLB.com), has posted a .757 OPS and has only gone hitless three times over this stretch. While he remains several seasons away from his MLB debut, Arias is a name to keep a close eye on as he continues to progress through the Boston system.Source: MiLB.com
Boston Red Sox shortstop prospect Jimmy Crooks to Join MLB Roster
Jimmy Crooks to the MLB roster prior to their contest on Friday evening against the Cincinnati Reds. In a corresponding move, the Cardinals are placing catcher Yohel Pozo (concussion) on the 7-day concussion list. The 24-year-old has spent the entire 2025 season at the Triple-A level. Through his first 98 games at the top level of the St. Louis system, Crooks has posted a solid .274/.337/.441 line with 21 doubles, 14 home runs, and a 114:36 K:BB. During this stretch, Crooks has not stolen a base and scored 61 runs and brought in 79 runs. In 2024, Crooks spent his time with Double-A and posted an impressive .908 OPS. Given that Crooks will likely share time with Pedro Pages, he is only worth a look in deep NL-only formats.Source: Derrick Goold
The St. Louis Cardinals are promoting catching prospect Xander Bogaerts Suffers Foot Fracture, Set to Hit Injured List
Xander Bogaerts (foot) has suffered a non-displaced fracture in his left foot and is expected to go on the injured list, according to Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune. A foul ball struck the 32-year-old in his left foot during Wednesday's contest. However, Bogaerts has suffered a serious injury and is in danger of missing an extended period. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status over the final month of the regular season. Bogaerts has had an everyday role in the San Diego starting nine this season, posting a .262/.330/.387 with 10 home runs and 20 stolen bases. While Bogaerts is held out of action, fantasy managers should expect veteran Jose Iglesias to see most of the opportunities at shortstop.Source: Kevin Acee
San Diego Padres shortstop Colson Montgomery Returns Against Yankees
Colson Montgomery (side) is back at shortstop and is hitting cleanup for Game 2 of the series against the visiting New York Yankees and left-hander Carlos Rodon on Friday. A left-side injury kept Montgomery out of action for the last two games, but he'll return for the start of the weekend after also dealing with a similar issue last week. The 23-year-old former 22nd overall pick in 2021 has gone just 35-for-152 (.230) in his first 43 big-league games this year, but he's also produced 14 home runs and 37 RBI in 165 plate appearances as the team's shortstop of the future. Montgomery has homered in each of his last four games, but it will be tough to keep that impressive streak alive on Friday in a tough lefty-lefty matchup. In 44 trips to the plate against southpaws, Montgomery has hit .167 (7-for-42) with three homers and nine strikeouts.Source: MLB.com
Chicago White Sox rookie shortstop Yainer Diaz Back for Series Opener Against Angels
Yainer Diaz is back behind the plate and will hit seventh for Friday's series opener against the division-rival Los Angeles Angels and left-hander Tyler Anderson at Daikin Park. Diaz missed the last two games of the series against the Colorado Rockies this week with a hand injury but is good to go to begin the weekend series against the Halos. The 26-year-old backstop has faced Anderson 13 times in his career and is hitting .231 with a .517 OPS. The Dominican catcher is having another fine season as Houston's starting catcher, though, batting .257 (114-for-444) with 18 home runs, 55 RBI and 46 runs scored in 116 games played. Diaz will also enter Friday's series opener with a modest five-game hitting streak that has seen him go 7-for-19 with a homer, two RBI and two runs scored in 22 plate appearances.Source: MLB.com
