J.J. Wetherholt Making Strong Case for MLB Promotion
J.J. Wetherholt continued to flash immense power upside at Triple-A on Friday evening. Facing Charlotte, the top-ranked prospect in St. Louis went 1-for-4 with a solo shot and a walk. This was his second round-tripper over his last three games. During these three games, Wetherholt has tallied at least one hit in each contest. Overall since earning the call to join the top ranks of the St. Louis system, the former West Virginia product has not disappointed, posting a .297/.394/.648 slash line with eight home runs and a 1.042 OPS through 24 games. Earlier in the campaign, Wetherholt held a .300/.425/.466 line through his first 62 games at Double-A. Given his elite hitting upside, Wetherholt is a top hitting prospect to stash in redraft leagues.Source: MiLB.com
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop prospect Leodalis De Vries Launches Two Home Runs
Leodalis De Vries had a monster day at the plate on Friday evening. Facing High-A Dayton, De Vries went 3-for-4 with a double, two home runs, and five RBI. He also drew a walk and scored three runs. Since joining the Athletics in a blockbuster deal that sent Mason Miller to San Diego, De Vries has held a .229/.326/.458 line with a double, two home runs, and a stolen base. During the first half of the season, playing with High-A Fort Wayne, De Vries posted a solid .245/.357/.410 line with 19 doubles, eight home runs, and eight stolen bases. Dynasty managers should continue to monitor De Vries's development as he is considered one of the top hitting prospects in the entire sport. Even though he is several seasons away from his MLB debut, he is a top stash option in all keeper formats.Source: MiLB.com
Athletics shortstop prospect Charlee Soto Undergoes Elbow Surgery
Charlee Soto (elbow) underwent surgery to repair a detached bone spur in his elbow. As a result, he will miss the remainder of the season but should be in a good position to be ready for spring training. Soto made his professional debut in 2024 and spent the entire season with Low-A. Through 74 innings, he held a modest 5.23 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP. During this stretch, Soto struck out 87 batters and allowed 33 walks. However, this season, Soto has taken the next step with High-A. Across 13 innings with Cedar Rapids, he has held a 1.38 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP before suffering the injury. Fantasy managers should expect the 19-year-old to spend most of the 2026 season with High-A, given the time he missed.Source: Bobby Nightengale
Minnesota Twins right-handed pitching prospect Carson Steele With Seven Rushes In Loss
Carson Steele led the backfield in the 16-33 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Steele paced the team with seven carries but only managed 22 yards, good for 3.1 yards per carry. He also brought in one catch for a loss of a yard. Despite having the most carries, Steele tied with fellow backup Brashard Smith in rushing yards. Steele figures to be the third-string running back at best and could still be competing for that role. Steele is best left undrafted heading into the 2025 season.Source: NFL.com
Kansas City Chiefs running back Gardner Minshew Productive In Loss
Gardner Minshew completed seven of nine passes (78%) for 70 yards and a touchdown in the 16-33 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Minshew found Robert Tonyan in the back of the endzone on a rollout for an easy score. It was a nice sign to see for Chiefs fans, knowing they have a capable backup behind Patrick Mahomes. That said, Minshew will not have any fantasy value this season unless Mahomes gets injured.Source: NFL - Twitter
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Robert Tonyan Scores In Preseason Loss
Robert Tonyan played a big role in the 16-33 preseason loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Tonyan had five catches for 41 yards and a touchdown in Friday's contest. It was the second week in a row that Tonyan led the Chiefs in receiving, which might mean that there is a role for him behind Travis Kelce as a backup tight end. The 31-year-old has been a red-zone threat in the past, so maybe he will be utilized in that area of the field in the regular season. Despite his production in the preseason, Tonyan's actual role is still undefined and should not be considered a fantasy asset during draft season.Source: NFL - Twitter
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Isiah Pacheco Looks Fast On Lone Touch
Isiah Pacheco only had one touch in the 16-33 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, but he looked good on that play. Pacheco corralled a third-down reception and turned it into a 22-yard gain. Pacheco reached 17 miles per hour on that run, a good sign for his health. His work in the preseason has remained limited, which bodes well for his value in the regular season. After missing time due to injury last season, Pacheco is set to begin the year fully healthy and carry the load as Kansas City's lead back.Source: Michael F. Florio - NFL
Kansas City Chiefs running back David Bednar Converts 19th Save
David Bednar continued an eventful first couple of weeks with the club on Friday, securing the save in a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Bednar pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning with two strikeouts to hold off the Cardinals for his 19th save of the year. Since the Yankees acquired him from the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 31, the right-hander has converted two saves, blown two saves, gotten a win, and picked up a hold in a six-appearance span. The Yankees traded for Bednar to add another high-leverage arm in front of then-closer Devin Williams, who has since lost the job to Bednar as a result of immense struggles. Bednar, meanwhile, has pitched to a stellar 2.35 ERA with a 1.09 WHIP, 65 strikeouts, and 13 walks in 46 innings.Source: ESPN
New York Yankees reliever Phil Maton Takes Second Straight Loss on Friday
Phil Maton suffered a blown save and took the loss for the second straight game on Friday. With the Rangers leading the Toronto Blue Jays 5-3 in the eighth, they called on Maton to escape a jam with runners on first and third and no outs. Instead, Maton allowed the inherited runners to score and gave up an earned run of his own on a hit and two walks. He fell to 2-5 on the season and has yielded five earned runs on three hits with 5:3 K:BB in his past two appearances. Maton has still pitched well this year between St. Louis and Texas, having put up a 3.15 ERA with 57:19 K:BB in 45 2/3 innings, but he hasn't been able to seize the Rangers' wide-open closer's role since they acquired him on July 31.Source: ESPN
Texas Rangers reliever Jacob Misiorowski Stumbles in Return From Injury
Jacob Misiorowski returned from the 15-day injured list on Friday and struggled in a 10-8 win over the Cincinnati Reds. Misiorowski, back after missing two weeks with a tibia contusion, yielded five earned runs on four hits and three walks (with three strikeouts) over 1 1/3 innings. The 23-year-old threw just 28 of 54 pitches for strikes, though he did continue to show off jaw-dropping velocity, maxing out at 101.7 mph and reaching the 100 mph mark 12 times. Misiorowski's ERA climbed by over a run on Friday, going from 2.70 to 3.89, while he also holds a 1.15 WHIP with 50:17 K:BB across his first 34 2/3 frames in the majors. The Brewers haven't announced a date for his next start, but it's likely to come during a five-game series against the division-rival Chicago Cubs next week.Source: ESPN
Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Victor Vodnik Picks Up Another Save on Friday
Victor Vodnik logged his fifth save of the year in a 4-3 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday. The 25-year-old right-hander threw a perfect, 12-pitch ninth inning with two strikeouts to lock up his third save since Tuesday. Interim manager Warren Schaeffer said Vodnik and Juan Mejia would share closing duties when Seth Halvorsen went on the 15-day injured list Aug. 3, but Vodnik has recorded all of the Rockies' saves since then. Vodnik owns a respectable 3.62 ERA with 40 strikeouts in 37 1/3 innings, but he also carries a high WHIP (1.54) and an inflated walk rate (5.06 per nine).Source: ESPN
Colorado Rockies reliever Tanner Scott Throws Simulated Inning on Friday
Tanner Scott (elbow) threw a 22-pitch simulated inning against teammates on Friday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. It's the first time Scott has faced hitters since landing on the 15-day injured list on July 22 with inflammation in his left elbow. Scott went to the shelf with a 4.14 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP, and 50:11 K:BB over 45 2/3 innings. While the 31-year-old leads the Dodgers with 19 saves, he's also still ranked last in the league in blown saves (seven) despite missing the past three-plus weeks. The Dodgers are expecting Scott to return in late August, and he should jump right back into high-leverage situations when he rejoins their bullpen.Source: Fabian Ardaya - The Athletic
Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Marcelo Mayer Questionable to Return This Season
Marcelo Mayer (wrist) has begun taking dry swings, but manager Alex Cora told reporters that he's unsure if the rookie will play again this season. Mayer went on the 10-day injured list with a sprained right wrist on July 24, and he received an anti-inflammation injection on Aug. 2. However, he hasn't recovered as quickly as hoped after the injection. Almost two weeks later, Mayer is doing "OK, not great," according to Cora. While Mayer has hit a subpar .228/.272/.402 with four homers, 10 RBI, and 20 runs scored in his first 136 plate appearances in the bigs this season, the 22-year-old remains an important part of Boston's long-term plans. With that in mind, the Red Sox aren't going to bring Mayer back this season unless they're certain he's fully healthy. As of now, his chances of returning in 2025 don't look great.Source: Mac Cerullo - Boston Herald

Colton Cowser Likely Returning on Sunday
Colton Cowser (concussion) is expected to rejoin the team on Sunday, according to interim manager Tony Mansolino. Cowser is currently on the 7-day injured list due to a concussion. He has been eligible to return since Thursday, but needed a few extra days. Cowser figures to resume his starting role in left field once he's cleared to play. Dylan Carlson and Greg Allen have been splitting up time in left field while Cowser is out. Cowser is worth snagging in deep leagues, but doesn't offer a ton of upside outside of that.Source: Jake Rill
Baltimore Orioles outfielder Anthony Santander Begins Swinging the Bat
Anthony Santander (shoulder) has reportedly progressed to swinging from both sides of the plate. If everything goes well, Santander should work his way up to a hitting program and begin a rehab assignment. However, this progression is likely going to take weeks, so fantasy managers should be able to safely rule out Santander until the end of August. The switch-hitter has been out since late May due to a left shoulder injury. The hope is that Santander can offer some help with the bat down the stretch of the season. It seems unlikely that Santander is going to help fantasy managers at this point in the season.Source: Ben Nicholson-Smith
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Matt Chapman Goes to Injured List
Matt Chapman (hand) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Friday. This comes after a hand issue kept Chapman from playing during Wednesday's contest. He underwent an MRI which ruled out any structural damage. However, Chapman is going to miss a few weeks because of this injury. The Giants haven't given a timetable for his return, but late August or early September seems to make sense. Casey Schmitt figures to see a majority of the playing time at third base while Chapman is out.Source: San Francisco Giants
San Francisco Giants third baseman George Springer Likely Returning on Saturday
George Springer (concussion) appears to be on the verge of returning to the starting lineup. According to Arden Zwelling, Springer will serve as the designated hitter during Friday's game at Triple-A Buffalo. If everything goes well, Springer is expected to rejoin the Blue Jays on Saturday. Springer has been sidelined since August 1 due to a concussion. He has since been cleared of concussion symptoms and began a rehab assignment this week. Fantasy managers should check back on Saturday, but they should get Springer back this weekend.Source: Arden Zwelling
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Max Muncy Lands on 10-Day Injured List
Max Muncy (oblique) was absent from Friday's lineup and will now head to the 10-day injured list. Muncy was scratched ahead of Wednesday's contest due to an oblique issue. He's now set to miss a few weeks while he recovers from the injury. Dodgers' manager Dave Roberts said that this injury will force Muncy to miss more than the minimum 10 days. However, Muncy is expected to return to the lineup before the end of the regular season. In the meantime, Alex Freeland figures to see a majority of the starts at third base. There could be some deep league appeal there while Muncy is gone.Source: Sonja Chen
Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Michael King Hopeful to Return by Late August
Michael King (knee) was recently placed back on the injured list. King made only one start in his return from a shoulder injury before heading back to the shelf. The right-hander said that his left knee has been bothering him for a few weeks. That being said, it's probably best for King to get it taken care of before the postseason. He underwent an MRI that didn't reveal any structural damage. King is hopeful to get back in the rotation by late August. Fantasy managers will need to stash King on their IR spot until then.Source: Dennis Lin
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Browns Optimistic Shedeur Sanders Can Return to Practice Next Week
Shedeur Sanders (oblique) could return to training camp practice next week and play in the presason finale next Saturday, Aug. 23, against the Los Angeles Rams, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Sanders injured his oblique on Wednesday and will not play in the second preseason game on Saturday against the Philadelphia Eagles, but the hope is fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel (hamstring) can start this weekend. The Browns are officially calling Sanders day-to-day. The 23-year-old looked good in his NFL debut in the preseason opener last week, but he was never realistically in the running to win the starting QB gig for the Browns going into the regular season. Until further notice, Sanders is strictly a dynasty/keeper league stash in fantasy formats.Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero
The Cleveland Browns are cautiously optimistic that rookie fifth-round quarterback Calvin Ridley, Tyler Lockett Sit Out Friday's Preseason Game
Calvin Ridley and Tyler Lockett did not suit up for the team's second preseason game on Friday night against the Atlanta Falcons, according to Turron Davenport of ESPN. It remains to be seen if the Titans will allow Ridley and Lockett to take the field for the final preseason contest next Friday versus the Minnesota Vikings. Targets and volume shouldn't be an issue for Ridley as he goes into his second year in Tennessee, although he'll be working with rookie quarterback Cameron Ward. The 30-year-old caught 64 of 120 targets for 1,017 yards and four touchdowns in 17 games last year with poor QB play. Efficiency could once again be an issue in a weak Titans offense, which makes Ridley more of a WR3/flex in fantasy than a bonafide WR2 target. Ridley has back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons and 12 combined TDs.Source: ESPN.com - Turron Davenport

Rashee Rice Receives Clearance to Travel to Brazil for Week 1
Rashee Rice has received clearance to travel with the team and be permitted to enter Brazil for Week 1 of the regular season against the division-rival Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 5, a source tells The Washington Post's Mark Maske. Rice plead guilty last month to two felonies and is facing a possible suspension under the NFL's personal-conduct policy and has a hearing scheduled for Sept. 30 before disciplinary officer Sue L. Robinson. The fact that the 25-year-old's hearing is in late September means that he's likely to be available for fantasy managers and the Chiefs in Weeks 1-4 after his involvement in a multi-car crash in 2024. A suspension of anywhere from four to six games is still very possible, though, and now it might come later in 2025 or be deferred to 2026. Likely the WR1 in KC when available, Rice's looming suspension has dropped him to WR3/flex territory.Source: The Washington Post - Mark Maske
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Matt Chapman Absent Again on Friday
Matt Chapman (hand) is not in the team's starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays at Oracle Park. Casey Schmitt will draw another start at third base for the Gigantes and will hit fifth versus Rays right-hander Joe Boyle. Christian Koss will play second and hit seventh. It will be the second straight missed game for Chapman, who was forced to the injured list earlier this year with a hand injury. However, the 32-year-old veteran could be available off the bench on Friday night, which means he could very well return to the diamond for Game 2 of the series in the Bay Area on Saturday. Chapman remains excellent on defense, but he's been a bit of a disappointment offensively in his second year with SF, slashing .229/.337/.423 with 16 home runs, 44 RBI, 53 runs and seven stolen bases in 96 games.Source: MLB.com

Dylan Crews Swipes Bag in First Game Post-Injury
Dylan Crews wasted little time to make an impact in his first game back in nearly three months. On Thursday, the former first overall pick went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a 1:1 K:BB during their contest against the Philadelphia Phillies. Crews has been held out of action since May due to an oblique strain. Before the injury, the LSU product was off to a slow start at the plate, as he posted an underwhelming .196/.266/.354 line with two doubles, one triple, and a 48:11 K:BB. Despite his low batting average, Crews hit seven home runs and swiped an eye-catching 11 bags in just 45 games. During his MLB debut in 2024, Crews stole 12 bases in a 31-game stint. Given his ability to steal bases at a high level and potential to hit for power, Crews remains a solid No. 5 outfielder with upside in all category leagues.Source: MLB.com
