Matt Chapman Absent Again on Friday
Matt Chapman (hand) is not in the team's starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays at Oracle Park. Casey Schmitt will draw another start at third base for the Gigantes and will hit fifth versus Rays right-hander Joe Boyle. Christian Koss will play second and hit seventh. It will be the second straight missed game for Chapman, who was forced to the injured list earlier this year with a hand injury. However, the 32-year-old veteran could be available off the bench on Friday night, which means he could very well return to the diamond for Game 2 of the series in the Bay Area on Saturday. Chapman remains excellent on defense, but he's been a bit of a disappointment offensively in his second year with SF, slashing .229/.337/.423 with 16 home runs, 44 RBI, 53 runs and seven stolen bases in 96 games.
