The San Diego Padres agreed to a three-year deal on Thursday for Bob Melvin to be their next skipper after they let Jayce Tingler go after a disappointing 2021 season in which the team finished 79-83 despite entering the season with World Series aspirations, according to sources. The Oakland Athletics had picked up Melvin's 2022 option, but they agreed to let him interview for the Padres job, and they won't receive any compensation for his departure. Melvin has been the Manager of the Year three times and spent 11 seasons in Oakland. He has a .514 career winning percentage and has led the A's to four straight winning seasons. Despite the rough year in 2021, the Friars will have high expectations again in 2022 with the 60-year-old Melvin leading them.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerRead More News
