Offensive Line Could Struggle In Front Of Ben Roethlisberger
3 years agoThe Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line is young and inexperienced going into the 2021 season after they overhauled the unit after an atrocious 2020 season (last in the NFL) running the football. A best-case scenario this year would be some growing pains that are masked by rookie running back Najee Harris and a new-look offensive scheme. "There will be some growing pains as we all know," offensive coordinator Matt Canada said last month. The Steelers will have five new offensive line starters in front of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger when they open the season. Alejandro Villanueva and Matt Feiler left in free agency, Maurkice Pouncey retired and David DeCastro was released. Between Pouncey and DeCastro, they had 15 Pro Bowls, four All-Pro selections and 258 career starts. Marcus Gilbert was also traded and Ramon Foster retired. Chuks Okorafor started 15 games at right tackle last year, but he will move to left tackle, where he hasn't taken a single pro snap. While this young and inexperienced Steelers offensive line can't be much worse than last year's unit, it's also scary to think that an oft-injured veteran signal-caller will be relying on fresh faces to protect him in what will likely be his final NFL season. Roethlisberger won't be much more than a low-end QB2 after both he and the offense fell apart in the second half of last season.
