Noah Fant 2019 Outlook - Beware of Rookie Tight Ends
6 years agoComing into the NFL Draft, it was widely considered Noah Fant and his college teammate T.J. Hockenson were the two best tight end prospects. So, it was no surprise when they were the top two tight ends drafted. Fant went to Denver, where Joe Flacco and the Broncos will love the athletic non-blocking tight end as a major contributor this season.
Emmanuel Sanders is coming off his torn ACL and without him, Courtland Sutton did not show out the way some thought he would after the trade of Demaryius Thomas. Daesean Hamilton could end up leading the Broncos in receiving in 2019. Even so, he is only projected for 70 catches and just under 800 yards. This means a lot of yards are going to go somewhere and when it comes to Flacco, this means the TE position. He has made solid contributors out of the likes of Dennis Pitta, Todd Heap and even Maxx Williams. A talent like Noah Fant should shine.
In his final two college seasons, he combined for 69 receptions for 1,014 yards and 18 touchdowns. In a Big Ten conference with elite defenses in Penn State, Michigan and Ohio State, these numbers are impressive. He looks to repeat that production as a rookie at a position notorious for taking a few seasons to find footing in. Fant is one of a handful of players who can come in and have the skill and talent to hold up and make a difference right away. He is currently being drafted as the TE16 at the end of the 13th round of fantasy drafts, behind players such as college teammate Hockenson as well as Eric Ebron and Trey Burton. All of these players would be hard-pressed to finish the season higher in the TE rankings than Noah Fant.
The opportunity for Fant to outperform other veterans with Joe Flacco at QB is there. It is not a stretch to think he reaches 65 receptions for 800 yards and 10 touchdowns in his rookie season. He could be a top 10 TE, both in fantasy drafts and fantasy rankings.
