Nico Hoerner Could Return This Weekend
3 years agoChicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner's (hamstring) rehab has been going well, according to manager David Ross. There's a chance that Hoerner could come off the injured list during the team's weekend series against the Cincinnati Reds. The 24-year-old is scheduled to play on Thursday at Triple-A Iowa before the team decides if he needs any more rehab at-bats. Hoerner was hitting well before his injury, slashing .338/.405/.432 in 84 plate appearances over 21 games, albeit with no home runs and just nine RBI. The Cubs have mostly been using Sergio Alcantara at the keystone of late, but both Eric Sogard and Ian Happ have also appeared there. Hoerner will be an option for fantasy managers as infield depth in deep mixed and NL-only leagues when he returns.
