Nate Pearson 2020 Outlook: Massive Strikeout Numbers Possible
5 years agoThe Blue Jays brought in quite a bit of pitching depth this winter but with the exception of Hyun-Jin Ryu, none of the hurlers have particularly high ceilings or long-term commitments. That bodes well for Nate Pearson, a pitcher with the talent to be a No. 1 hurler. He combines together size, eye-popping velocity, and above-average control -- a mixture that is rarely seen. And although he surpasses 100 mph with his heater, he’s not all velocity. He has two breaking balls that project as above-average or plus offerings. The Jays were aggressive with the young pitcher's development in 2019 as he played at three levels and topped out with three starts in Triple-A where he held the hitters to a .185 average. He likely won’t need more than a month or two back in the minors before being ready for the next challenge. Pearson should be a top fantasy target in dynasty and keeper leagues, as well as a key target in redraft leagues once his MLB arrival is imminent.
