Max Stassi Not Ready For Games
4 years agoLos Angeles Angels catcher Max Stassi (hip) isn't ready to appear in Cactus League games after having left hip surgery after the 2020 season, but he is taking part in full workouts and is getting close to making his spring training debut. Barring a setback, Stassi is expected to be ready for the start of the regular season and will serve as the team's primary catcher, with Kurt Suzuki serving as his backup. The soon-to-be 30-year-old hit .278/.352/.533 with an .886 OPS, seven home runs and 20 RBI over 105 plate appearances in 31 games during the shortened 2020 season. The catcher position is a physically demanding job, so we wouldn't be surprised if Stassi struggled to begin the year while coming off hip surgery. But he does have some decent pop and will see the majority of playing time in Anaheim, making him a consideration as your second catcher in two-catcher leagues.
