Luis Severino 2022 Player Outlook: A Price That Just Might Justify The Risk
3 years agoWe have not really seen Luis Severino since 2018. Over the last three MLB seasons, Severino has managed just 18 innings. It was encouraging to see Severino get healthy enough to make four big league appearances in 2021, throwing six innings without giving up a run and striking out eight. When he has been healthy, he has been dominant – the upside is not in question here. The only question is the health of the arm. It seems quite unlikely that Severino achieves 150+ innings in 2021, but that does not mean he can't be a very useful fantasy pitcher with his ADP sitting slightly above 150. Even past pick 150, you are taking quite a risk using a valuable roster spot on a guy that has had this much trouble staying on the field, but the payoff is huge here if he can finally put the injury bug to bed. We will be able to get a much better feel for where to draft Severino once we get some Spring Training games in, so be sure to check back in March. This will all come down to how aggressive or conservative you are as a fantasy player, but the ceiling seems more than sufficient for what the cost currently is.
