Logan Gilbert Dominates The Yankees Thursday
3 years agoSeattle Mariners rookie starting pitcher Logan Gilbert struck out a career-high eight hitters and went a career-high seven innings to help beat the New York Yankees on Thursday. The 24-year-old blossoming ace has a 2.57 ERA in eight starts since May 25, and the Mariners have won each of those eight starts. The 6-foot-6 right-hander only allowed a double to Giancarlo Stanton in the second inning. Gilbert's nasty slider generated four of his strikeouts, and he got whiffs on 11 of the 19 swings against it, the most in any of his 10 career starts. Forty six of his 63 fastballs on Thursday came in at 95 mph or higher, and he wasn't afraid to attack a Yankees team that has feasted on fastballs this year. Gilbert is just scratching the surface and should be picked up in mixed leagues if he remains on your waiver wire.
