Lars Nootbaar Dropped to Seventh in Batting Order
Lars Nootbaar is starting in left field and batting seventh for Tuesday's road game in Chicago against the White Sox and right-hander Shane Smith. With Nootbaar slumping of late at the plate, this will be the first time all year that he hasn't served as St. Louis' leadoff hitter. Second baseman Brendan Donovan will set the table on Tuesday for the Red Birds. It's bad news for Nootbaar's DFS value, but hopefully this won't last forever. The 27-year-old left-handed hitter was given the last two games off after going hitless in his last 24 plate appearances with a walk and 13 strikeouts in seven games since June 8. The cold stretch has dropped his season slash line to .226/.329/.361 with eight homers, 28 RBI, 39 runs scored and four stolen bases in 266 at-bats. Nootbaar has never faced Smith in his career.
