Kyle Schwarber Signs With Nationals
4 years agoFree-agent outfielder Kyle Schwarber signed a one-year, $10 million deal with the Washington Nationals on Saturday, according to a source. Schwarber, a hero in the 2016 World Series run with the Cubs, became a free agent on Dec. 3 when he was non-tendered after six seasons in Chicago. The 27-year-old lefty slugger hit just .188 with 11 home runs in 59 games during the shortened 2020 season. He hit .230 with 121 homers in 551 regular season games in his time with the Cubs, also compiling a .981 OPS in 24 postseason games. If there is no designated hitter in the National League in 2021, Schwarber figures to be the regular left fielder in D.C. Schwarber hit 38 home runs and had 92 RBI while slashing .250/.339/.531 in 2019, so he'll be an interesting bounce-back candidate for fantasy managers this season in his new home, just don't expect much help in the batting average department.
