Kevin McGonigle Records Extra-Base Hit in Fourth Straight Game
Kevin McGonigle went 1-for-5 with a walk, a double, two RBI, and two runs scored for High-A West Michigan on Sunday. It marked the fourth straight game with an extra-base hit for the Tigers' second-ranked prospect (MLB No. 23), and continued a torrid stretch of hitting. The 20-year-old missed over a month earlier this season due to an ankle injury, logging only 20 games for High-A West Michigan, but what a 20 games it has been. The left-handed slugger is hitting .415 (34-for-82) with an otherworldly .505 OBP thanks to an elite 15.5 percent walk rate (12.4 percent strikeout rate). His 1.212 OPS would be the best at any level of the minors were he qualified. A promotion to Double-A must be on the horizon, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him get some at-bats at Triple-A before the season is out.
