Kevin Kiermaier Retreats To The Bench
1 year agoToronto Blue Jays outfielder Kevin Kiermaier will start Saturday's game against the visiting Cleveland Guardians on the bench with left-hander Logan Allen on the mound. The left-handed-hitting Kiermaier is actually hitting .299 (20-for-67) against southpaws in 2023, but he's yet to go deep against them in 43 games. Daulton Varsho will start in center field and bat ninth for the Jays against Allen, with Whit Merrifield shifting to left field. Kiermaier has had a pretty solid season in his first year in Toronto, slashing .267/.326/.414 with six home runs, 14 doubles, five triples, 30 RBI, 11 stolen bases and 42 runs scored in 101 games. However, he's faded of late, going 7-for-31 (.226) with a homer, double, six RBI and three runs scored in 12 games (nine starts) so far in August.
