Justin Verlander Giving Up Long Balls Frequently
6 years agoHouston Astros starting pitcher Justin Verlander allowed three solo home runs on Wednesday and has allowed 17 all year. Only three starters have allowed more homers than Verlander this year. He gave up 28 last year in his first with Houston and is on pace to break his career high of 30 in a season. Verlander allowed 30 dingers in 2016 when he finished second in the Cy Young voting in the American League. However, all but two of his 17 homers allowed this year have been of the solo variety, so the homers he's allowed haven't done much damage. Despite the propensity to allow home runs, Verlander is still one of the best pitchers in baseball and is a must-start every time he toes the rubber.
