Joseph Woll Set To Start Season As Maple Leafs No. 2
1 year agoToronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll looks set to be the backup for starter Ilya Samsonov in 2023-24. With Matt Murray (undisclosed) unavailable and starting the season on long-term Injured Reserve, the Maple Leafs recently snapped up veteran Martin Jones, but it looks like the team is trusting Woll as the No. 2. "I think he's ready to grab a hold of a job here," Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving said of Woll. The 25-year-old has already spent some time with the team in the last couple of seasons, posting a 9-2-0 record in 11 appearances, but he's mostly worked in the AHL. Woll enjoyed a fantastic 16-4-1 campaign with the Toronto Marlies last season, showing that he might be indeed ready to make the step up to the big league.
