Jorge Lopez 2025 Fantasy Baseball Outlook: Moves Down The Closer Depth Chart With The Return Of Finnegan
Jorge Lopez signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Washington Nationals in January. Lopez pitched for both the New York Mets and the Chicago Cubs in 2024, winning two games, earning four saves, and posting a 2.89 ERA and 1.23 WHIP over 53 innings, adding 50 strikeouts. Lopez has some experience closing games as evidenced by his 31 career saves. Lopez still throws a good fastball at 95. MPH, and uses his five-pitch mix to induce an excellent 51.4%GB%. In Draft Champions leagues, his ADP is 384. Lopez could get 15+ saves to start the season if he earns the job with a solid spring. This is definitely a bullpen to watch. Keep in mind that if Washington adds someone with experience, like David Robertson, or brings back Kyle Finnegan, Lopez would have little to no value in fantasy leagues. Update 2/25/25- The Nationals re-signed Finnegan to a one-year, $6 million contract in spring training, and he immediately becomes Washington's closer after racking up 38 saves for the Nationals in 2024. With Finnegan back in the fold, Lopez becomes mainly an option in saves and holds leagues.
