When the New York Mets signed starting pitcher Jason Vargas this offseason, the thought was he would be a solid innings-eater who gave them a decent, but not great, ERA. After two starts, he has done none of the above. Vargas was destroyed in his first start in San Diego for nine runs across 3 2/3 innings pitched over the weekend, and wasn’t much better against the Atlanta Braves on Thursday. He allowed six earned runs in 4 2/3 innings pitched. If Vargas doesn’t turn things around, the Mets are in real trouble without any viable options behind Noah Syndergaard and Jacob deGrom. Vargas can’t be trusted in any fantasy format right now.--John Smith
