James McCann Dealing With Lower-Back Tightness
James McCann (back) was scratched Friday with tightness in his lower back and did not play in Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Diamondbacks instead started Adrian Del Castillo, who has mostly served as a DH when he has played this year. Shortly after starter Gabriel Moreno landed on the injured list with a hairline fracture in his right index finger on June 16, the Diamondbacks signed McCann to help cover for his loss. McCann has hit a respectable .233/.316/.384 with three homers in 98 plate appearances with the D-backs, but thanks in part to his back issues, he has only played in three games since Moreno returned Aug. 22.
