5 years agoColorado Rockies outfielder Ian Desmond was supposed to have an off day on Friday, but when starter David Dahl went down with an ankle injury in the sixth inning, Desmond joined the fray. He went on to become the surprise hero of the game when he doubled in the go-ahead run in the seventh, and the Rockies were able to hold on for the win. Following an atrocious July that was the team's worst in franchise history, they're looking to get August off on the right foot, and Desmond hopes to ride that wave. Desmond hit .319 or better in both May and June, but he struggled in July. With Dahl likely headed to the Injured List, Desmond should see plenty of opportunities to show that a new calendar page was all he needed.--Billy Stonick - RotoBaller
