Hyun-Jin Ryu To Start Opening Day
4 years agoTo the surprise of no one, the Toronto Blue Jays tabbed pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu to be the club's starter on opening day. The veteran hurler is in his second season with the Blue Jays after signing a four-year, $80M contract prior to the 2020 season. Ryu made his final spring appearance on Friday and struggled with his command. He allowed eight hits — including a home run — and three runs in four innings of work. Last season in the majors, Ryu posted a 2.69 ERA with a K-BB of 72-17 in 67 innings. He should be followed in the rotation by Robbie Ray, Steven Matz, Tanner Roark, and Ross Stripling. Ryu's first start of the year will come on the road against the New York Yankees.
