A third team has potentially emerged in pursuit of former New York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey -- the San Francisco Giants. Earlier on Monday we learned that the Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners may have interest, but now we have a trifecta of western clubs. Like the others, we don’t know if the Giants have actually discussed a Harvey trade with the Mets or if they simply want to make a play for him if/when he hits free agency after clearing waivers. Of course, this news also comes on the heels of the Giants losing starting pitcher Johnny Cueto (elbow) for a minimum of six weeks, but clearly Harvey shouldn’t be viewed as any kind of stopgap solution given the way he’s pitched. We expect to hear rumors of many more teams that may be interested in Harvey over the coming days.--John Smith
