Falcons Won't Pick Up Hayden Hurst's Fifth-Year Option
4 years agoThe Atlanta Falcons will not pick up the fifth-year option for the 2022 season on tight end Hayden Hurst, according to a source. Hurst will become a free agent after this season. The Baltimore Ravens selected him with the No. 25 pick of the 2018 NFL draft and then traded him to Atlanta last March. Hurst had a career year in 2020 with the Falcons, catching 56 passes for 571 yards and six touchdowns on 88 targets. But the Falcons drafted Kyle Pitts at fourth overall last week, potentially shifting Hurst's role and future in Atlanta. The team also added blocking tight end Lee Smith this offseason. The 27-year-old has $1.349 million of his base salary fully guaranteed in 2021 and should be the No. 2 tight end behind Pitts. Had his fifth-year option been picked up, he would've made $5.428 million in 2022.
