Evan Engram 2018 Outlook: Red Zone Opportunities Will Be Key
6 years agoThe NFC East is wide open in 2018 and at the center of all the talk will be the New York Giants. The East will be loaded with offensive talent, and if the Giants defense doesn’t improve, they offense will have to score a lot of points. The Giants ranked 31st last year in yards against while also giving up the fifth most points against. The Cowboys, Redskins and Eagles will all look to exploit them.
We have spent all off-season talking about Odell Beckham Jr. and Saqoun Barkley but where does Evan Engram fit into the equation this year? Will he be third behind Beckham and Barkley or will he fall behind Sterling Shepard as well? The overachieving season Engram put together last season was based solely on the fact that Eli Manning had no one else to throw to. Engram saw the second most targets for a tight end last season with 115, and the most since Larry Donnell saw 92 targets in 2014.
Engram will easily be a TE1 in 2018 because it’s not difficult to reach that status. However, we may be looking at a low end TE1 unless Engram can be a huge Red Zone target. The volume won’t be there so he’ll need to find the end zone a few times.
