D'Onta Foreman 2023 NFL Player Outlook: Continues His Career Resurgence
2 years agoFrom the 2016 Doak Walker Award Winner to battling severe injuries and personal issues, Chicago Bears running back D'Onta Foreman is a hard player not to cheer for. From a personal side, Foreman has not had it easy. While he was a junior at the Texas Longhorns, he lost his infant son, and in 2022 he lost his father in a vehicle incident. Meanwhile, while playing football, he tore his Achilles in 2018 as well as his bicep in 2019. Despite all of these obstacles, Foreman finally got his chance on the Titans in 2021. When Derrick Henry was injured, Foreman averaged 83 rushing yards per game in his six games with 10+ carries. This ended up getting him an opportunity last season in Carolina, where he averaged 85 rushing yards over his 10 games with double-digit carries, including five games with over 110 yards. All this is to say that Foreman has quietly been one of the best pure rushers in the league over the last two years. Overall, the 27-year-old rushed for 914 yards (4.5 YPC) on 2023 attempts and five touchdowns while catching five passes for 26 yards for the Panthers in 2022. The Chicago Bears signed Foreman to a one-year, $3 million contract to replace David Montgomery, who signed with the Detroit Lions during the offseason. Chicago also selected Texas running back Roschon Johnson in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He now finds himself in a complementary role alongside the shifty Khalil Herbert, rookie Roschon Johnson, and the rushing ability of quarterback Justin Fields. It is clear that this team does not believe Herbert can handle a full workload by signing Foreman and drafting Johnson, making Foreman a solid fantasy contributor in standard formats. However, he is more of a value in Best Ball leagues, where you don't have to guess which weeks he will fall into the endzone.
